View Full Version : Quitters and the big november update

I don't know, did something go wrong (once again) after the big update yesterday or am i just feeling somehow exceptionally unlucky now?

I remember the first few matches after the game was released. Some (eather knowingly or not, but i'm sure quite a few knew atleast) people quit on the "key" moment after the match was obviously clear. Result: the other "fellow" gets the win, where as i get the loss. At that moment i thought i definitely won't return to this damned game anymore.

Eventually, i continued regardless and had no problems for all these ~400 ranked matches i've played so far (though there was countless fun and great moments to be had). Now, for some reason after the update i've been experiencing the lesser-form, yet almost equally annoying glitch. People seem to quit all the time now (for some reason) and whenever they quit there doesn't seem to be any change in scores (happened with everybody so far, as i gather).

With normal, fast games (Crates for example) i don't lose my sleep over these kind of things. But when it's long matches like Forts and people start quitting just in the end, then i get extremely frustrutated and i start surficing right here :)

Anybody else experiencing same sort of annoyances?

Those aren't glitches. See, because the Worms games use peer-to-peer connections instead of server connections, if someone disconnects in a 1-v-1 match, the server can't tell who quit. Team17 have ALWAYS had this problem!
Now, the reason it seemed like the other person won in the pre-patch games is because the system was set so that both people lost if there was a disconnection between the two people. T17 specifically did that to reduce quitters; which it did, compared to other games.
But, because too many people complained about losing points for things that were entirely not their fault, Team17 changed it to simply having neither player gain nor lose points on a disconnection.

Okay, that's not official, and I don't have the game so it's purely speculation on my behalf, but I'd like to think it's a pretty damn good guess!

So yeah, welcome to the eternal problem of people quitting in ranked matches! You can play friendlies only if it bothers you too much.

Peer-to-peer then? I didn't know that, but now it all makes sense. Thanks for bringing it up. It's really ridiculous system and what makes it even more sillier is just to consider how many other arcade titles have got it right. Oh well.

Anyways, i've been playing today alot already (as every day) and luckilly nobody has yet decided to quit (been avoiding Fort though). Normally it's rare actually and it was only after the update yesterday and this morning that i got so many quits and all of them didn't return anything. It's just a whole lot of wasted time and fun sometimes, especially when coming later from work tired.

I'll see how it starts playing around. The last thing i would want to get into is the vicious circle of avoidances, but it might be inevitable if things go worst. :( Atleast quite often i try to send a well-thought (or just short and sweet) message to those who i avoided about why i did it. Some shape up and that's nice to see, where as the rest just give you their int3rnets monkey talk/insults or just ignore, which is fine. It's just nasty business, but i love my Worms!

I get a lot of quitters, although I play almost exclusively in Forts (seems like the only mode where skill matters at least a tiny little bit. :p). Doesn't really bother me tho, I don't care if my win counts or not, I'm still winning.

Is it possible that u guys can add a customisable fort mode for player matches?
The changes u guys made to fort mode suck really bad. like turning down turn time, reducing the frequency of special weapons, and changing the usable distance of the girders. Not having these aspects of the game in ur strategy makes matches take forever and become incredibly boring. After u use the homing missile and airstrike there are no more weapons left. Also could u remove the avatar from popping up when the turn rotates, this is incredibly annoying, glitchy and slows the connection. U guys shouldnt change major aspects of the game after people have paid for it. What if we like it the way it was. Hardly anyone plays online anymore because u've changed fort mode too much.
