I can no longer get WA online.
I have been using avast for a long time, but only recently did i start to get this error. I used to be able to reboot my computer and it would go away, but no longer. even worse, if i try to get online without wormkit I still cannot.

please help!!!

thanks

It would helpful if you would be more specific about the error itself.

ok, verbatim;

"ack, wkpackets initialization error!

the packets procesing library failed to initialize.
This could be caused by several reasons...
if you're running an anti-virus program, it might be blocking wkpackets.
It's possible that you need to be a system administrator to run wkpackets.
maybe there's some other software incompatibility with wkpackets...
the exact cause can't be determined.
Anyway, try rebooting, disabling your security programs,
and if nothing else works, post on the team17 forums or contact Cybershadow."

then I click ok and get the typical Wormkit friendly, reminder, then I click ok and get this message;

"Looks like wkpackets failed to initalize...
Wormnat2 Can't work without it, and will be disabled."

then the game loads up and when i go to log in, i never get the screen with a log in message box. even if i boot it up without wormkit I do not get that screen either.

please help.

thanks

Well, did you try to disable/uninstall your antivirus and see if that helps?

I'm also having this problem...

I tried rebooting and after that it DOES work the first time I open Wormkit after the reboot. But if I close the game then I get the error message again whenever I try to play. Also it seems like it doesn't work the first time when I turn my computer on, meaning I have to reboot at least once to get it to work at all. (Really annoying having to reboot every time I need to host / use Wormkit).

It was working fine until about a week ago when it starting doing this, so Idk what happened...

I don't seem to have an antivirus program or anything running (or if I do it's doing a pretty good job of hiding itself - I'm on the Windows 7 RC)

Any ideas?

I never had this problem on any 32bit o/s, but see it regulary happen on my 64bit win7 now. It can show the error 7 times while trying to load wormkit and go perfectly well the 8th time without any mucking.. very strange. Also tried to launch WA, then quit, then start Wormkit, which sometimes seems to be effective. But the 'sometimes' already indicates it's of no effect at all probably :( Still it's a very annoying problem. Perhaps compiling a 64 bit version would solve it? I have no clue... Meanwhile - its annoying that worms gets loaded anyway after the error message, instead of being kicked to the desktop immediately. That would be a bit more convenient. Any way to make it so?

edit: it's deffo not antivirus software. i excluded wkpackets from scanning, same for wormkit, madchook and even the whole folder at last - no effect at all. however i now notice windows defender is still enabled, while i don't want that tool. brb for checking if that's the evil guy

edit2: hmmm... funny - i just disabled windows defender since i dont want that tool anyway and it started wormkit with no probs 6 times in a row. that didnt happen before, never. So let's give blame to M$ for now, and point to Disable Windows Defender if you have wkpackets.dll problems?

ye i'm rly starting to suspect windows defender being the cause of this error... i never had it on cuz i have already something else running... just forgot to turn it off since i reinstalled and then the **** happened. so blame that until further notice :)

murgh... it's not windows defender... i've just noticed the stupid error again... anyway - is there some errorlevel code to be used in a batch or something? to check if wormkit has exited with some error? would be cool. sorry if it's already in the readme, i'll bother to look some other time o0
