Just getting back active again after a near 2 year absence and have pretty much everything back in order but for some reason my flag has changed from a admittedly ugly Union Jack to an equally ugly but also untrue Stars n Stripes... I can't get Wn to show me up as a Brit no matter what I try.

I know there is WPpipe (good ol' Etho) but its a bit overkill to just get my flag back. My PC is the same as before and my isp is BT not AOL or any other USA based isp so not sure exactly what changed.

Anyway some help would be great and to all the people here I ain't seen in a LONG time be great to catch up on WN ASAP

all the best

The WormNET country flag assigned to you depends on your Windows setting. To change it in Windows XP, open your Control Panel, find the Regional Settings icon, and there, at the bottom of the first tab, choose a country from the Location drop-down.

Thanks guys most appreciated.

One more thing I have just made a map (my first PNG) and upon converting it the game wouldn't recognise it, after checking the wa map requirements I realised it was to do with the amount of colours so downloaded GIMP and used that to adjust the colours of the map and it loaded up in the game fine (yay!) but no... The ropeable area that I made all black to show as invisable terrain was covered in pixels, I don't mean one here and there I mean to the point where it was impossible to tele into the map itself.

I think I noticed in one of the other posts that you use gimp Billy? 64 colours won't work for what I can tell so any advice on what settings to use etc to convert it correctly.

Many thanks

Did you make sure to follow point 4 from here (http://worms2d.info/Colour_map#The_GIMP)?

I have yeah, but on rechecking it I noticed it keeps giving the RGB value +1 to the green (which will be where the pixels are coming from) but no matter how many times I set the RGB value to 0 and click ok as soon as I click the black on the map again and check the colour it once again has a value of +1 green.

I have tried colouring over the map with a solid black but again the same happens +1 green... not sure where I am going worng, although I'm sure its something simple, thanks for reply CyberShadow any further help is most appreciated.

Kind regards

upload the map somewhere and post a link to it here.

If you're seeing pixels that are colored +1 green, then there must be an index in your colormap for that color. As the wiki indicates, you should be able to change all those pixels in one shot simply by change the entry in your colormap (to pure black). (Right click -> Windows -> Dockable Dialogs -> Colormap)

If that doesn't work, you could switch your image to RGB mode (Right click -> Image -> Mode -> RGB), clean it up and then switch back to indexed mode to have GIMP regenerate an optimal colormap without dithering. If you don't need dithering then you're set, otherwise it won't help and you may end up with the same mess.

It's hard to tell what's going wrong without seeing the actual image. If you'd like us to take a closer look, perhaps you could upload it?

I've managed to get the map working now but had to take a pretty stupid way around it... I created the map in photoplus as that's what I'm more accustomed to using and then had to use the GIMP to change the amount of colours and convert the map, then upon encountering the pixel problem I used ms paint (yah I know) to just use the colour fill tool on the black areas.

I will try following the advice you have give G-lite and see if I can find a more sensible way of doing it. I been back 5 mins and I already miss the lovely simplicity of BITmonkey... ahh the good ol' days.

Thanks for the help, if I get the other (more sensible) way sorted I'll let you know

Cheers guys

If MS Paint's Fill tool worked for you, then you already had a "pure black" in the palette. This could be why GIMP wasn't allowing you to edit the colour.

Why not do this ;
Take a pre-made platform, open it with paint and fill it with black
then save it with 256 colors as "pattern" and use it as a canvas.
I made countless platforms for WWP back in the day using that .

Awesome thanks guys I've got it sorted now and Morgoth I havedone as you suggested to avoid any problems in the future. Thanks for your help ;)

To save opening a new thread I'll ask again here but I have come across another problem. When hosting up it takes people forever for the people in my game to download the map (4 - 5 mins + for a big RR) slow stuff... I have just had to reinstall Windows so its possible that something has changes that I am not aware of. Any idea's would be appreciated and thanks again for your help so far guys.

Are you normally able to upload large files quickly? If it is a 1megabyte file, you have to send it to each person in the game lobby... thats at most 5 megabytes of data which is a reasonable amount for average australian broadband internet >.>"

I'm glad I helped ;>
About your other question, it depends on how big the file you want to share is, as well as your connection. Five minutes seems like a lot of time to me. I don't think that re-installing Windows has anything to do with it. Also , keep in mind that not all the people on wormnet have broadband connections, so it might have to do with them as well.

No, keep in mind that you (the server) are uploading the same big file to the other players' PCs (the clients). It's not about people being unable to download faster than you can upload.

These are not reliable. The best way to test your download speed is to use a download manager to get a large file from a file server that doesn't enforce limits while monitoring data traffic with a tool like Networx (http://www.softperfect.com/products/networx/) (free from Softperfect). To test your upload speed you should try uploading a file to rapidshare.com (and read the Networx graph while doing that).
