View Full Version : Low framerate?

I decided to play some WA after a long time of it sitting on my hard drive unplayed. For some reason, the game only runs at 30 frames per second instead of 60 like it used to. I found that it runs faster if I lower the resolution, but my computer is far more than powerful enough to handle this game at full resolution. So what's going on?

The game runs at max 50 FPS. What OS are you using?

WinXP. Also, the game has always ran at 60 FPS for me (not anymore it seems). Maybe you're just using a monitor with a 50Hz refresh rate.

GreeN meant that the game's internal engine runs at 50 FPS.

Have you tried closing all programs and terminating background processes which aren't required to run the game?

Yep, I run the game by itself. There's nothing in the task manager that looks like it might interfere with the game.

Try playing it on a virtual computer. If it works fine, then you can be sure there's something wrong with the actual computer.

I have windows XP and framerate is 23-30?

Computer is:
Core 2 Duo E8400@3.00Ghz
2Gb Ram
ATI HD 4850 512MB

Windows Xp Professional.

Whats the problem?

I have the exact same hardware Aviator, so it's most likely a software problem. Follow the usual generic advice (update drivers, run a virus scan, quit all non-essential applications and processes) and see if that helps.

I have similar specs to Aviator. I've reinstalled the game and updated my video drivers, but nothing changed.

Even if I set the resolution way down to 1024x768, the framerate still drops into the 40-50 range. WTF?

Try disabling Vsync in your video card drivers software.

Try disabling Vsync in your video card drivers software.

I tried that and the framerate went up to around 40, but it's still nowhere close to 60.

I tryed disabling Vsync and other settings but fps still 20-30.

Any Suggestions?

I found another thread about the same problem.

http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33447

After reading it, I found that pressing Insert during gameplay to remove the background does fix the problem and that the problem lies within the background gradient. It also seems most common on ATI cards (I'm using a Radeon HD4870). However, unlike the person in the other thread, disabling Vsync doesn't fix the problem for me.

Also, if I remember correctly, this was not a problem before the 3.6.29.0 update.

Any advice?

The reason this wasn't a problem before .29 is that earlier versions didn't draw a gradient for some maps at all, if the map used too many colours.

So there's no way around this besides removing the background?

Wait for the next Beta.

Will do. When do you think that will be?

thats a question commonly asked, and the common answer is "it happens when it happens, cyber shadow and deadcode do this in their free time so be patient".

I was testing WA in my new i7 rig and got same behavior beside the known color bug.
I'm using a ATi HD 4890 with Win 7 RC. I never experience this on my old computer with XP SP3,
WA run smooth if background is off but if I hit insert 3 times it simply feels very laggy. Kinda wierd anyway.

wait for the next update to fix gradient performance for some video cards.

Is there way to remove background gradient in the menu screen like you can in ingame with the insert key?
I also switched from geforce to radeon, and now the game lags :(

Sometimes when i play, i see the screen flashing, and before it i can see a little lag, and using the Fraps 3, i can see the low FPS...

I don't know why the screen flashes, but with the windows XP it don't happen

I Disabled the Windows Aero!

I go to the game's folder, and find the WA.EXE, before it, i open the properties (Left Clic > Properties), if you have you can use a shortcut to WA.EXE too.

I go to Compatibility tab, and mark DISABLE THE WINDOW COMPOSING, and press OK.

Now, when i open the game, the Theme is auto changed for WINDOW AERO BASIC, and auto return to normal when i close it :p

I have this same problem. But does disabling Aero really boost the framerate? you'd think with all this power in new PCs and OSs that you'd see an INCREASE in performance! :)

Wait for the next update to W:A, it features various performance improvements for certain Nvidia and ATI scenarios.
