I saw it there: http://feedback.worms2d.info/pages/5998-worms-armageddon/suggestions/88329-mini-map?ref=title
I think it will be good think with zoom and others, but it is possible to do? :)

I think it should be done in the way that the Lemmings ones were done:
Dots of team colour for worms, greyscale landscape.

Mines and barrels shouldn't be visible, because it's more fun that way.

How about a radar? And a PPS (pixels-per-second) gauge.

Because moving the mouse is too complex

For you, anyway.

All flooding aside, this would be kind of nice, even tho it alters gameplay, not having to search for opponants and/or crates. On the other hand, big maps and things like cratefinder have already altered gameplay, having to actually SEARCH for an opponant used to be not so hard, in a huge map it can be quite tedious. Same for crates and thats where cratefinder came in.

If you require a mini map to locate a worm otherwise too complex to locate with a simple mouse manouver, do you reckon that perhaps said worm is too far away to attempt any kind of shot anyway?
Seriously, I can see scenarios where this would be useful, however, how many of them per average game do you think it would apply? Too few for it to be worth it.

That's called the CPU players. It's a feature that already exists but nobody uses it.

i think playing almost any big map would benefit from it, then again - when roping fast, i can't afford to stare at some minimap - you wanna be focussed at your worm and it's fly trajectory instead.... just buy yourself a huge monitor, that will for sure help you around in large maps, without the need of some radar or minimap or whatever, harharhar

A minimap would be extremely useful for tower maps - particularly ones you're not farmiliar with. I have the HOME key held down at 1440 x 900 res and often it's necessary for me to look ahead with the mouse.

I'm maybe getting a bit too ahead of myself, but custom settings for zoom, and pixel sensitivity would be great. By pixel sensitivity, I mean how dense a pixel cluster on the actual map needs to be for it to appear on the minimap. e.g: on MAX pixel sensitivity, a single pixel on the actual map will always be represented by a pixel on the minimap at any zoom. This pixel sensitivity idea is just for preference of the minimap representing as well as possible the actual shape of the map vs. "are there any pixels there at all for me to rope to?".

If the minimap was anti-aliased though, that'd be awesome and you could ignore all this pixel sensitivity stuff ^^. Maybe anti-aliasing could be optional if it is too taxing on some people's machines.

I LOVE this idea, and would so grateful if any sort of minimap thing eventually is made.

If every single pixel were to be shown on the minimap as a single pixel, the minimap would end up the same size as the real map.

You could have the minimap be a fixed size and what it shows be zoomable and let the player move the minimap focus etc. (Picture in Picture mode anyone?)

robowurmz, I think you've misunderstood.

On max "pixel sensitivity" or whatever it should be called, say you had the zoom on 4x for example. If you had a lone pixel in the middle of nowhere, it would be represented by 1 pixel on the minimap. If you had a cluster of 64 pixels making a square, it would be represented by between 16-25 pixels, depending on alignment. Pixel positions on the minimap are still relative to the positions on the main map, but it only takes a MINIMUM of 1 pixel on the main map to force a pixel on the minimap. I hope that this explanation was clearer.

Ah, I see.
It squashes big clumps, and shows you the tiny ones. Good idea!

could you just use the resized preview of the map from the pre-game lobby? slap that in a panel similar to the weapons and esc. menus, add little glowing dots of each color team for respective worms, white/grey/brown dots for crates , and a dotted outline of the screen for orientation. you guys dont want to be able to PLAY on the mini map do you?

i kinda like mihais idea of the pixels per second guage, id rather have that than a mini map
