View Full Version : Quitters - What can we do?

Obviously when someone quits on me I give them a negative review so I don't bump in to them again.

But what else can be done? IMHO this is a MAJOR problem.
Almost EVERY game the other person will quit on me when they are down to 1 worm and they can see that bomb dropping on there head about to win the match!

Surely when a team is down to 1 worm and a big bomb is about to drop on there head that when they disconnect it should still count for the achievement?

Even if you make a delay in peeps quitting, half the time they would of been too late (unless they physically pulled the internet connection out).

It's FAR too easy for peeps to quickly and effiecently quit when they want.

Here are my suggestions:

1) Add a countdown timer when peeps quit, make it look so obvious they have quit and not just lost there connection (if they wanna play dirty make them get physical exercise, force them to pull that cable out). Kills within countdown limit still count too for game win.

2) Have a Quitters leaderboard. Name and shame them.

3) Have an option to not be matched to players who have quit 'x' amount of times (or 'x' percentage of games played). I don't want to play anyone who has quit games more than a certain amount of times. Sod them, I want to avoid them. I want this option to do that. Where we can pick our own number or percentage. (I.E. Option to choose not to play against peeps who have quit/lost connection 10% of the time).

4) After a high percentage limit the quitters to none ranked games. Why let them play ranked games only to quit out? restrict them to play public matches until there quit percentage gets reduced by playing full games in public (not private or they will just boost).

5) Humiliate them. Turn all there worms brown or something if they have a high quit percentage, so there is a visual representation when you are playing against a quitter. So all they play know they quit a lot. Make them ashamed to quit and want to stop doing so.

K, theres some random ideas off the top of my head. What you think? Anymore ideas? Are you getting sick of peeps quitting too?

P.S. I don't even know why there is an option to quit the game, force them to surrender to leave. Even if they bring up the dashboard to exit game, surely you can tell in the game code they have done that themself? Just make that count as a surrender and not as a dissconnection/end session; as I say, make them physicaly remove the connection to cheat and add that to a quitters board stats.

Hmmmm.....what about putting them in a gas room? -.-

I just wanna say, that after posting the above I did think that...

"Humiliate them. Turn all there worms brown or something "

Could be miss-conceived in meaning.

What I originally meant was to make them look like the turds they are instead of worms. So nothing racial there, just my ignorance showing.

So perhaps turn them purple or something. Just anything that gives a visual cue that they quit and spoils there customisation.

Maybe give them dunce hats with "quitter" wrote on them and change there voice selection to a silly one specifically for quitters.

I dunno, just fed up of them spoiling an otherwise great game (once you get Forts mode improved).

Option 3 seems like a good one to me. Although, I'd like to see something like that incorporated into the dashboard. Have more stats on a player that also, indicate how they like to play. Then, you have the option of automatically filtering out players who say, quit 75% of the games they play online.

Personally, I don't care about being denied a win but, gaming experience is reduced by players who quit rather than, keep playing until the end.

^ Exactly. It spoils the experience as you don't get to play a full game!

In the end peeps will simply stop playing all together if it can't be sorted out one way or another.

Is playing a full 20min (max) game too much to ask for?

Oh, I came up with another option too.......

6) Rate players in-game.

You can tag a player as either:

a) A Good sport
b) Sore loser
c) Quitter
d) Very talanted
e) Needs practise
f)

etc etc

OR... Even just give them a star rating (Just for the worms game)!

Then In lobby you can see how they have been rated, so know from the start what type of player they are and if they should be avoided.

Like I say, just another brain storm... I suppose a problem is peeps may avoid "very talanted" players. Myself I see it as a challenge. Like playing it on "hard mode". Also if you get tagged a lot with that then it is an honuir really.

P.S. slightly off-topic. But wouldn't it be great if worms had a 'medal' system. Like Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942, Halo 3 etc. Where you could earn 'medals' and score points etc and put them in a siggy too. I'd start a new thread for this alone, but kinda know it's just me shouting on deaf ears as Team 17 are so busy with more important stuff like bug fixes and Alien Breed (sad face).

[B]The best[B] two ideas I have ever heard for the Worms franchise. Add a taunt or two for each voice bank to only be used against a quitter's team to the dunce cap/silly voice thing, and it would instantly make Worms online legendary.

There used to be a medal/ranking system in the early days of WormNet.

I like the thought of a badge of shame, though I'm sure most quitters will care less what people think of them. However, if this badge appears in the lobby screen then you can at least have the option to drop out and find another match without having it count against you.

To be fair, though, even a quitter should be given a chance at redemption. If they decide they're tired of everyone dissing them upon seeing their BoS and they want to remove the mark, I'd suggest that they'd have to lose five - ten ranked matches--and get credit for the losses consecutively--to clear their name. So if they win, fine. If they lose, they have to suck it up. . . a bunch of times. Sure, they could just play and suicide, but it would still involve a bit of time and effort to hopefully be enough of a deterrent. Two or three more quits and the BoS goes back on.

I would be careful as to what determines BoS status. Looking at my stats, I see that I have at least two games that might constitute a "quit" (seeing 42 games played, 40 completed) and I *know* I've never quit a game. . . I don't think I've even had network issues, so I have no idea how this discrepency came up.

They should make it so if they quit you will fight stupid A.I. of whats left of the quitters worms so you can finish the match and get your achievement progress.

I'm not sure about dumbing down the A.I. But that is otherwise a great and simple code tweak which would work.

I mean If there is 1 worm left and they quit than I don't mind playing against even a 'super hard' A.I. opponent as I am sure I'll still win as the cheater eneded the game simply because they had no chance (so guessing the A.I. will not either).

What a super idea. Surely this could easily be implemented in the patch where A.I. take over from a disconnection and it is classed as online play (even if only one on last worm - which is when the most lamer peeps quit)?

I just review people as avoided if, they quit. Although, I'll generally give someone the benefit of the doubt first time around that maybe their connection dropped, even if it seems a remarkable coincidence.

If they quit on the last worm I always give them bad rep as it is usually right before the air strike or bunker buster that will end the game.

If they have a few worms left or it is the start of the game then yeah I give the benefit of the doubt. Thing is though this rarely happens (TBH I can't even count once, it's ALWAYS on there last worm & game wining shot).

I can't see how a quit with 1 worm remaining should not be a proper win. I mean even if you try to boost or cheat the system this way it's kinda not worth the effort as you still need atleast 6 rounds (for one team to suicide on purpose 3 worms). I mean it simply is not worth it if a measure was put in place.

Anywho in short the simplist ways so far (for code wise, so it is not a major thing for team17):

1) A.I. takes over when someone quits (even if hard AI to stop boosters).
2) Delay on time-out, so wining shot counts (so too late for them to quit when they see it coming).
3) If they quit on last worm you get the full win.
4) More inteligent way of the game knowing if someone quitted out to menu or pulled out the connection lead (as far as I know most quitetrs simply go to dashboard or game menu - They are too lazy to pull out the internet connection).

I registered to this forum to rage about this issue.
This is a major problem!

Trying to get 68 wins is not easy when every 4 player finishes the game:eek:

Please make it so that when a player quits, it counts as a win for the other player.

I've lost so many wins already:mad:
