They seem to do absolutely nothing at all.

Here is what is used above ^

Why are they there then? also how do you get your font small like in signatures?

also edited OP.

Melon
23 Jul 2009, 10:18
seems to work, it makes your text the same colour as that in your signature.

[light]Test test test test test test

I guess signatures are just coded to use a different size?

Light doesn't work here, default forum theme ._.

Hey why did team17 operators leave unused stuff in their vbulletin forum application.

OUTRAGEOUS

Ah well there's no excuse to not be using the awesome theme of purpley goodness. It's the price you pay for using sucky themes. ;)

I believe they used to be used, many moons ago, probably back in APJ's time. Small did exactly what it said on the tin and made the text smaller (signature sized I believe); note did the same but also made it signature-text coloured; light was a less bright version of bright and big, well, made the text big.

If I remember correctly, the logic for introducing small & big was that there was a lot of abuse with the forum's [size=x] tag, where you could enter any number and end up with either absolutely huge or very tiny text which was just plain annoying!

Edit:

Just to add, I have no idea why they've been disabled now. Probably broke when we upgraded to vB3.0 and Sel/APJ never re-enabled them :p

It works on the default theme, but its hardly noticeable. Its just slightly greyer than normal.

Pretty much what he said, only without the smarm. A PM to Volcadmin would've been a better idea.

and then, after a decade of wait, Plasma finally got a chance to use the word smarm, and somewhere, because of this, beyond the realm of human thought, Shakespeare shed a single tear.

I wasn't waiting for ages to say it. It was just today's Sesame Street's word of the day!

They seem to do absolutely nothing at all.

[small] and [note] appear to do nothing, but [light] is making your text appear signature like and is making it bigger.

Am I the only one who is seeing the [big]big tag work?

True, increasing my monitors brightness better clarifies the difference.

Big definitely works!

Light works too, but is very subtle, especially on Retro Purple

Note does nothing

As does small

^^ Opera 9.64 Kubuntu 9.04

EDIT: Here is the HTML for this post, maybe this could shed some light:

It's obvious from the HTML, and the name of the tag, that this wasn't its original intention, just a side-effect. I believe thomasp is correct, but that it was designed for quoting non-forum sources.

So whats the difference between the code for them and the code for things like highlight and bright?

Edit: ah, there's the problem. A later version of vB replaced "font class" with "span class" for functions. That, and it should also be "smallfont" now, not "smallwords".

Doesn't work in safari, neither in my version of Opera in XP, although I haven't updated it in ages. It does work on the Wii web browser tho. :p

Edit: It also works in the DS-i browser.
