Using Windows XP SP3 with an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS with 2.5 gigs of RAM
I've played the game previously on this system a year or two ago and it worked fine. I just popped the CD back in (same installation) and I'm having a graphical problem. The menus all look fine but as soon as I get into the game almost all of the terrain and background is completely black. The only thing I can see is Worms, clouds, and game objects like barrels and weapon animations, but all of their colors are inverted.
It sounds similar to a problem I see a lot of Vista users having, but I'm not using Vista, I'm using XP, so setting compatibility to XP or using a Vista fix doesn't work.
I've tried setting compatibility mode for Windows 98...
Ok, in the process of writing this post I started the game again to get a screenshot and everything worked fine, with no compativility mode selected, and no changes I made deliberately. I haven't even shut down the computer since the last time it didn't work. This is the 5th time I've started the game today and the first time it's worked correctly. I guess I'm glad it's working now, so I'll change my question to ask if anyone knows what could have been causing the problem and how I can fix it if it happens again in the future.
