Mmm, graphs. The hour totals aren't a surprise but I wonder why there's been a steady increase in the total number of players since October 2008? Also, why is 3.6.28.0 more popular than 3.6.29.0?

Hmm, the only one of those bugs I've ever noticed is the Skunk thing. One worm that had been poisoned by 2 skunks was losing 15 HP each turn.

It shouldn't be too surprising it's periodic, so long as it's not equally popular in all timezones there will be an overall peak and trough coinciding with people awake and online in the timezones it is popular in.

I think becuase there are not so many new features in .29, and .28 worked quite well. And people are lazy.

If you mean the large graph at the bottom, that's for WormNAT 2, not WormNET as a whole.

I think the weirdest graph is the one at the top. Why do most people join WN just before the hour? If it was just after then it would at least be explained as people joining after something else (TV?) has finished, but as it is it just seems a little odd.

Yeah, I thought the sections represented hours at first too. Cybershadow should probably change that to say Daily instead of Hourly to avoid confusion.
Yea sometimes I think there are up to 31 hours in a day too :rolleyes:
The graph that has months under it is confusing? o_O since when do months last 31 hours or less? :O

I've added data from some old HostingBuddy logs. Even though the data is incomplete (because HostingBuddy was periodically down), it's clearly visible that WormNET activity has grown by about 50% since 2007. I'm looking into finding even older logs and using WormNET game IDs (interpolated over periods of no data, since they're just a counter). If you can contribute old logs, let me know :)

We went through some really old logs to try to get as many pairs of WormNET game IDs and timestamps as possible, and I think we've succeeded at reconstructing a nice visualization of the history of WormNET activity. Check it out! (http://stats.worms2d.info/) It looks like W:A's popularity dwindled until end of 2004, after which it started to pick up again!

Looks great, however, the images' alt texts are badly designed.
If you were going to add tooltips, use the TITLE attribute instead. ALT texts are for browsers which cannot render images, or text readers.

To enhance the precision of the hosted games history, all I need is more WormNET game IDs with timestamps. So if you have old WormNET packet logs, send them in ;)

I think it's the readers' job to join those images. You just need to make download links so that users can choose which "year" to see.
The section would be like this:

yeah but those figures would be different if you split the states and russia up or you bunched all of europe together . russia and brazil are notorious for pirating, especialy games in brazil. id like to see the demographics for .28 and .29. i would seriously bet money that you can buy W:A in brazilian game/software stores

How are you doing this? Is it something along the lines of that WormNET has unique game IDs for every game ever, and you get the timestamps of some and fill in the gaps for the others? Is that right?

The majority of the time that I ask people while playing, they say they got it for "free", and updating it activates a cd check rendering it useless.

I was wondering if 0% meant noone had hosted that gametype. I would assume that those numbers must be rounded, if I were to also assume (i.e. too lazy to count) that all those numbers add up to 100 exactly. A simple tally would be interesting, but a little ugly. And I know how you like to make pretty graphs so the balls in your court. :*

What happened to country connectivity in September 2008? Or did you just lose the data? :PWe don't have data for the blank periods, because WormNET activity was not being logged at that time.

Ideally I think that the scheme history should be drawn using the same way as the country history, so we could see more clearly how much the less-played schemes were played.

It's just that out of the top 20 countries, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary are the only ones with a 0.0% usage of 3.6.30.0.

I would lie to you if I said Slovaks and Hungarians are friends. There were even radical riots not that long ago (2009 I think).

I proposed that petition because we Yugoslavs are same blood after all... didn't wanted to include some nations pretentions to rule all the world.
On the other side, I'd appreciate third Czechoslovakia... We understand each other perfectly even when grammar is absolutely different, and Slovakia needs strong partner such as Czech republic for faster economical growth :cool:
