View Full Version : FAoTM: February - I'm holding it hostage!

Screw it. Since no one claim the last one, i'm doing so.
And i'm recruiting everyone that has an arm and a pencil (and, in these terms, a scanner or a good mouse/tablet/ability-to-control-eletronic-devices-with-the-mind) to raise their fat arses out of the couch and draw something. Draw something. Write something. Do something - i don't care what - as long as you contribute.
The rules:
The art must be t17 related, obviously, and be new - as in never been posted before anywhere previous to the date of the creation of this thread.
The art must envolve:
An specific age or period of time (Victorian age, Medieval times and Ice age are good examples)
A classic, well known, forumer
That's it, kids. Be creative, as the winner gets a "draw-the-phrase" request done by me. Not much of a prize, but it's all i can offer for the time being.
Oh and link your friends to this so we can try to expand and somehow keep the forum alive a little longer.
If this fails, well, at least i tried.

Ain't no rule to say we can't have two February FAotM compos...
Umm...
What about the modern age? Does that count?
Ain't no rule to say we can't have two February FAotM compos...
Actually, I'm pretty sure there was a rule that that couldn't be done several times now.

I haven't, but i've figured that as well.
But i'm trying to make an effort to make the forum live a little longer and expect you all to help. :p
Ain't no rule to say we can't have two February FAotM compos...
I fail to see the other one. I believe it stopped around December, didn't it?
Umm...
What about the modern age? Does that count?
Modern as in contemporary? I believe so. It would be FAR more interesting picking any other age, but if you can come out with anything concerning comtemporary, it's all good.

Trouble is, I've already drawn a picture of a Victorian ancestor of mine showing off a steam prod to the world.
I've also drawn a whenever-me inventing gunpowder.
So now I have to think up a third thematically-appropriate time period...
... well, unless I do someone else's sig.

Dammit, I just realised I made my entry with that theme for the PAINT competition...
Oh well, I guess it should apply here too :p

EDIT: re-DAMMIT. One of the rules does make it invalid... Oh well, you decide, anyways. My original purpose was for this thread :p

So, you go back in time, pose for leonardo... and... get a cool jetpack and helmet in the future? Huh!?

Just popped in my mind. I'm not too sure about the meaning either :-/
And more like substitute the Mona Lisa :p
Well, Ms. Lisa Does own a jetpack now.
The closest thing I can think of to match that was that Badly Drawn Worm wen't back in time to Leonardo da Vinchi to make his art look bad, resulting in him focusing more on engineering and inventions (he was famous for more than just art, remember), resulting in a huge increase in technology back where BDW travelled from. Which is actually a feasable plan, albeit rather complicated.
Except that, unfortunately, it also relies on time machines being invented before everything else, for some reason!

I'm just glad it wasn't only me that didn't get that. :p

We need to wait until someone from the future comes to our time to tell us the secret of time travel, so we can travel back in time to give technology an earlier boost so we can have time travel much earlier in our time, so we don't need the info from the future.

My work here is done :p
And yeah, I guess Plasma's makes sense. I really didn't know what I was drawing, seriously. I guess it's one of those "you decide the meaning" things.

I agree with plasmas theory, but that isn't the main reason that Im posting,
the reason is that I have a greyscale picture ready, should I color it or leave it as is?

Its pretty good, compared to my zeroworm picture, but the pencils I use for coloring don't include a peach, so I have to blend, which often looks bad when scanned.

The reason it was so late is beucause I lost the old entry, and I had to draw a new one. I coloured it in with a new pencil set, which included a peach pencil.

Error rule for resizing pictures: the picture should look as big on the screen as it is on paper.
So put the sheet right next to your monitor and resize it accordingly. In my experience, that usually correspond to 100dpi. I usually scan in 200, ink and colour them in this huge size and then resize it 50% for releasing.
And this competition kinda failed. I'll still grant the prize, though, but it was kinda lame. I'm not quire sure on my efforts to bring life back to the forum are having any rate of success... i guess not... :-/

You did your fair share. I'm talking about the others and the general failed attempt to bring more people here.
But, oh well. Maybe it's like a seed... now i have to lay back and watch it grow. It may not look exciting but it might provide me some shade in the future.

FAOTM has been dead for a while. Themes probably aren't as inspiring as they used to be, maybe we should go back to generic compos.
And you still got two entries, that should make for cutthroat-competition. :p
Shadowmoon
2 Mar 2009, 00:06
My paint competition has had a good ammount of entries, and I can guess why:
Because you draw anything you want, so long as its worms.
What am I suggesting? that FAOTM's don't have themes.
Error404
2 Mar 2009, 00:18
It was like that once and it kinda had the same problem... and it was harder to rate and vote.
I think your paint competition had more entries cause it's simple and it doesn't have all that much status attached to it... most people didn't even entried their best artworks... they just drew something funny on Paint.
Which is completely valid. But it's different from FAotM. :)
Let's make another when people are interested... that day will come. :P

Drawn in too little time, 24 hours and 30 minutes too late.

Well... not much point in a trophy if you can't give it to the winner, is it?!
Well, if the thing ends up getting some interest... There could be a "HALL OF FAME" thread, with trophies (hand drawn, modelled in 3D, written on ASCII... You get the point :p) won there :p
There's several problems regarding sig-trophies for winning art contests. First, it would require a standard regarding trophy appearance. Second, you'd need a standard regarding contests or the forum would just be filled to the brim with them. Third, the sigs would really need to be somehow restricted to the Fan Art section only to save discriminating against people who don't draw - this is a Team17 forum, not an art forum.
You only say that because you can't draw.
Besides which, there needn't be standardisation as this isn't some bureaucratic council of awesomeness, it's just a place a bunch of people hang out together. Me having an award doesn't make me any different to you with none.
I find that whole arguement totally retarded. It's very much like the whole statuses thing; who minds what status someone has? Those who really do need to rethink what they value in people, the exception being when someone like Zeor misses his excellent "Cartoonist" status. Those types of occurrences are exceptions because it's not due to big-headedness, it's down to the fact that people like personalised statuses as a reflection of who they are.
