My computer is pretty old. It's a PCI slot only Dell. It has an intel 2.8ghz processor. My dad's computer has some PCI slots and an AGP slot. My PCI video card broke and I can get a better cheap AGP card then I could get a good PCI card. However, my dad's computer has an AMD 2.0ghz processor. Will the reduction in processor be worth the slot? Keeping in mind that this computer is only being used for adobe cs3/cs4 and then beign replaced at the end of the year (finally).

if you can list all the specs of both computers, then we can better inform you. I would say the change from PCI to AGP will be pretty big and AMD will have the memory controller integrated into the CPU so the AMD will either be faster or just as fast as the intel CPU.

Just keep into account that I will be switching around hardrives and PCI Cards between them if I switch and I ordered 4gb Ram.

I believe the AMD CPU will be better, with the much faster FSB and it is a 3200 model CPU, so it is roughly the equivalent of a Intel Pentium 4 3.2ghz.

Of course this is franpa, so I would suggest waiting for a second opinion.

My dad decided to get a used AGP card from a friend rather than buy a cheap one.....it's the geforce 2mx 4x dual monitor supporting one....damnit.

don;t expect to run many 3d games with it :) doesn't support hardware shader models or Pixel Shaders :)

Then you don't need a fancy graphics card. The CPU and RAM are everything for running applications like that. Onboard graphics is usually fine, as long as it has the resolution you need.

That said, a 2.0AMD is probably equivalent to a 2.4 Intel, so I can't see that it makes much difference what you do.
