Choosing ten entries was pretty easy this time, I gotta say. Best of all, nobody this year is going to gripe about being omitted. That's right, this year's contest garnered exactly ten entries. Isn't that lovely? Hmm?
Here they are now, conveniently indexed for your consideration. Like always, click the guy's name to see his contest entry.
Paul.Power (http://forum.team17.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=31750&d=1217709305) - Here again, Paul's obligatory MAPP-styled comedy entry is just part of the tradition. ;) It's certainly a more original joke than "it's another helmet, lol"
Slick (http://islick.deviantart.com/art/072-87213962) - Slick seems to have up and dropped off the face of the Internet, but he did leave us this gem to ogle before he went. There's just something about the angles and the shading in this that I like, along with the ferocity bonus I always appreciate, and the way it looks like he's turning around into the attack.
Akuryou13 (http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/1332/zerocontest08bo5.jpg) - Lots of neato flashy colors! He's all ZZOWZOWZOWZUHZOWZRRRAAAA anyway, yeah. I actually think the addition of the after-images is what binds this together best, but I'm a weirdo. Don't listen to me.
shadowman (http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/7314/zeorlh5.png) - Also available in the form of a wallpaper which takes this, puts it off in the corner and adds the song lyrics in the middle of a bunch of otherwise empty space, this depicts Zero as the star of a classic musical! Satire aside, this is actually pretty decent, certainly considering the tools used. Most of the shapes are good, and the simple shading somehow pleases me, especially around the umbrella and the hand holding it.
Gardy Looo (http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/6594/zeorto6.png) - Almost definitely the most original entry in the contest's history, there are a few unaddressed glitches in the coloring, but everything else about it is magnificent. The entire character design is great, very well posed and otherwise executed, and everything has so much detail. I think Gardy got us all off guard this time around.
TeDdywoRm (http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/2109/zerojpegxv5.jpg) - A little weird that the Zero-As-Robot-Or-Half-Robot arc isn't explored more often in these contests, considering his origins. I like the left side more than the right, actually -- the sketchy, angular style is neat, and the expression is perfect. That said, I like how the earpiece on the right side can be seen continuing into the helmet, and the eye under it. Overall, some pretty good work, for its simplicity.
Pyramid (http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/9256/digitalizar0007sk6.jpg) - I'm gonna go ahead and call this the most frightening entry in the contest's history. We know I'm not a fan of copious amounts of gore, but it's sure as hell done well enough, and he did a damn good job making something new of the helmet, or, to be more specific, in fusing it with the rest of him. I have no doubt, of course, that a Zero-Vader fusion would totally destroy all of wormkind, and it'd be bad 'n' stuff.
yauhui (http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/8132/tempxh2.png) - He drew something.
koolies54 (http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/3600/zerowormhdhe5.jpg) - He's definitely done something different with the helmet, too, and... uh, the grass is neat?
Snarglett (http://the-snarglett.deviantart.com/art/Revised-Zero-worm-102553661) - The sound effect labels steal a lot of the show, and they are pretty funny in their own right, but I mainly like the gem on the helmet, and the unique take on the... uh, face guard thingies. And, as I mentioned, how he's preparing to strike down not a villain, but in fact all villainy itself. Doesn't get much more heroic than that!
Ok! That about does it. Go vote! ...And, uh, be excellent to each other, or something.
Edit: I boned the poll in such a fashion that I think it's set not to close, so either I'd like to politely ask a mod to edit it to close a week from today, which would be the 30th, or I'll just have to stop counting and announce a verdict then. Whoop.
