And don't say: "work for Team 17" :p

Work as bartender in whichever pub in Ossett is nearest to the T17 HQ.
I'd get rich very quickly.

Is it just me or does everybody want to work in games these days?

I refuse to do something boring for a living where I am not required to think.
So if I can work in the games industry making graphics every day, I will be quite happy.

Electronic hardware/software/communications engineering of some sort (haven't specialised yet).

Games look interesting, but seem hard to get into. If I ever had a change of heart though, I'd probably go for physics programming.

I don't :p I'm doing a degree in aeronautical engineering - and the closest that gets to the games industry is playing Flight Sim or X-Plane.

In all seriousness though, a game programmer (obviously). Preferrably for Maxis or Team17.

I'm still somewhere in the middle of my molecular biology degree.
I've got a decent job at the biotech company I've been working for the past 3.5 years, so unless the company goes bankrupt I think that I won't be spending a lot of time for studying.
President of the United States of America.

3D/2D animator. It's, from Danish, roughly translated to "Media Animator". It takes 3 ½ years to educate as one, and I'm going to take it next year. It involves 3D, website programming, 2D animation, and other stuff.

I'm already pretty good at animating, so this is what I want to be.

I've yet to come across a game that isn't. :pI'm sure some games use polar coordinates. Or take place on the surface of a sphere: wasn't there a Worms clone that did that?

EDIT: Oh right, yeah, the topic. Well, currently I'm training to be a maths teacher, so that's obviously my medium-term career goal. But my dream job would probably be author or games designer, and these are things I want to work at during those long summer hols you get when you're a teacher ;).

I'd say that some of you do seem to have a slightly unrealistic idea of what working in the Games Industry is like. Believe me, it's no-where near as fun as it sounds.

Don't get me wrong, it sure beats a hell of a lot of jobs in terms of how interesting and rewarding it is, but it is still a job and thus does get very boring sometimes.

I remember a few years ago when I thought being a games tester must be the most awesomest job in the world ever... After all, you get to play the latest games way before anyone else gets to. A bit of work experience at a QA outsourcing company in Brighton (Babel) soon divorced me of that notion however...

I never wanted to get into the game industry because it's fun, I wanted to because it produces a fun end result that you felt you actually had a part in. Despite how ridiculously long it would take.

Oh, and I'm a sucker for problem-solving. That'd be the main reason.

I believe the best advice I ever heard about game testing went along the lines of "Imagine playing the best game you ever played for an extended period of time. Now imagine playing the worst game you ever played fro an extended period of time."

I want to become a Chef. Schools of Culinary arts is where you'll find me in a bit! I'll hope to become a chef at a high end hotel or restaurant. With a camcorder I would probably have some sort of cooking show online somewhere.

Of course, I would also quite enjoy learning some 3D modelling and 3D animation, as well as 2D art to compliment that what with the need for textures... Plus I just like drawing.

Hey, I figure everyone needs to eat, and if they don't, they die. So that's job security right there. Or if I do happen to get fired for some reason, I could use my hobby to get me by somewhere 'till I got back to cooking somewhere.

I'll do some traveling, fall in love, raise 6 kids, then my wife/husband will die and my writing (which up until this point will have been unpublished) will take a dark turn as I rapidly descend into alcoholism. In my dying years I'll become an incredibly popular writer, then I'll die, leaving behind my carefully planned and wonderfully eccentric will.
