Elona: Eternal League of Nefia is a Japanese roguelike that started development in 2006. The creator, Noa, has recently released English builds with some translation help from the community.

Some features at a glance:
- Experience/Skill-based advancement similar to other roguelikes (Dungeon Crawl)
- Random events while in a dungeon/town or just by traveling.
- Randomly generated sidequests via notice boards in every town.
- Player housing - Your clout is improved (or lowered) based on what kind of house you have and how well you decorate it. You start out in a ****hole. Seriously.
- Ability to place new structures such as a ranch, farm, etc. anywhere on the world map. These structures are operational and allow you to further improve your income.
- Marriage and lineage system where you and your spouse can have a child and pass on that genetic data to the next character you create. (Incarnate Character option on the Main Menu)
- Companions can join your party by inviting, hiring, buying them as slaves, or just subduing them. Your party size is based on your charisma.
You start the game with one companion - a dog, cat, bear, or little girl :what: (More information on Pets)
- Material collection/crafting.
- Online network support. What does that mean? It allows other Elona players to interact with one another via global broadcasts and chat. Honestly, I don't know how this works as it isn't fully implemented in the English builds yet. I'm hoping for a Mysterious Dungeon style of interaction.
- You can destroy towns. There's even a sidequest that involves nuking an entire village.
- Custom portraits.
- Original soundtrack. Custom music can be added.
- Gamepad support.

Haha, my first action in the game was to eat a beggars corpse, and my character goes mad because he realises he's a cannibal now - cue uncontrollable running around and throwing my clothes off.

My first action of beig alive was playing my piano for the first ever on tour perforamce after defeating my first enemies!

Sadly the audience hated the performance yelled"You can't play ****!" vand hurled a rock at me, killing me.

I love this so far

Nothing else to add. It's a great Roguelike for those of us who can't handle ASCII.

It's an adult game, in both dialogs and features. I mean, you can marry anything, carry slaves, breed anything in your ranch (including little girls) etc.

I heard about this game from a CERTAIN VIDEOGAME BOARD ON A CERTAIN "SECRET" WEBSITE. They seemed to love it. I tried it, meh. It didn't really top Dwarf Fortress for me.
