If you've ever been banned you might know that as soon as you try to access this forum you are confronted by a webpage stating that you have been banned for X amount of days, this page does not include a sign out making it impossible to view the forum or until now... being banned myself i noticed that after deleting all types of browsing history files i could access the forum again free to create another account or browse threads without an account (closely linking to Melon's thread http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=36130). So the question i ask you, is do you think that IP address bans should acompany the user-account ban?

Alt accounts are swiftly dealt with. Usually. Except when they're not.

I seem to recall that a couple of users have been IP-banned for particularly serious offenses.

Firstly, what does this have to do with speculation & discussion of new games? *Moves thread*

No they shouldn't. Even IP bans aren't foolproof and it's just more work to manually unban the IP address when the ban expires. We have ways of detecting duplicate accounts for ban evasion, and they will be swiftly followed with an IP ban.

All banning really does is stop you posting. That's all we care about - we don't really care if you still read threads, as long as you can't post in them.

Why the lock on viewing the forum then?

Why the lock on viewing the forum then?
It's like saying, "You're in prison. Here's a TV to watch other people have fun."

Doesn't make a lot of sense.

So as you know you're banned. Otherwise people would just flood the admin with emails asking why they can't post (vBulletin limits), or would just re-register.

or would just re-register.

Re-registering is an option when cookies are deleted from internet browser files.

If you register a second account to circumvent a ban, you will be IP banned. Quite simple.

And since there's not really much else to discuss on this...
