A few years ago when I was living at home and using the home pc I had a copy of W.A and loved it. Since then I've moved out, got myself a new pc and there have been new worms games developed. I'm looking to get another W.A but don't know anything of the new games, are they better? do people still play W.A online? or is there another version that is more popular?

WA is still the most popular, yes.

However, the new games aren't as great.

WA is the most popular here, but I think Worms on XBLA is the most played. WA is popular because it got so many updates for it.

Because?

Last time I checked WA has always been the most popular Team17 PC game, pre-beta and after-beta. Generally speaking. WWP might have beaten it when all the WA'ers moved there for a short period of time.

Let's face it though, without the updates WA would not currently be as popular as it is.

No doubt. It would still be the most popular PC game, though.

You sure? What with all the complicatedness getting it to run on XP, and not being able to modify the CD, and no replays?

Seriously, WWP would have been more popular in the long run.

Don't forget wormpot! Not much, but it was quite fun.

Like I said. WWP was popular for a short while, but people eventually moved back to WA, even before the BETAS. WA in 1999 was still a more complete game than WWP was on its release.

Don't get me wrong, but if people stayed in WA, it was because WWP didn't add too much, but if the betas didn't appear, people could have ended moving, bacause... well, I can't think of anything WA had that WWP didn't.

Snoopers, leagues, scheme editors...

It was also faster loading.

I wasn't into the online matter too much, but about the scheme editors, most of the ones I saw had an option to save as WWP, too. And unless the load time is ridiculously high, it doesn't make that much of a difference. I only played it sometimes on a friend's house, so I don't remember WWP too much.

Indestructible terrain?
IIRC, that was quite necessary for a popular scheme called Shopper around the time of WWP's release.

Wasn't that on the wormpot? I mean, it's not on the scheme, but still there... I think.

Nope.
You need an external scheme editor.
