I'm not sure if they are even still called spirit hunters anymore - that's what they called themselves back when I was into it. I just checked alt.supernatural.spirithunting and it hasn't had any new posts since 2001, so I don't think it's reasonable to say that's dead. Even it it's day "spirit hunting" was a pretty stupid underground term for it, and I imagine anyone who was a spirit hunter with me at the time has grown out of their dumb hardcore phase (or moved on to whatever it's called now). I checked for "spirit observation" which was afaik the "proper" name for it but I got nothing. Whatever, I think we all know what I'm talking about.

Anyway I ask because "Ghost Dad" (my name for him, yah from that Bill Cosby movie, my family basically does their best to ignore him, even denying his existence when I bring him up in the hopes that he'll leave) has been making fun of me again. When I'm in the shower he'll float on in and call me fatty and slap me with the towel. When I'm trying to go to sleep he'll try to tell me lewd stories. When I bring my avant-garde film club over to watch "Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma" Ghost Dad will just laugh his head off the entire time and make fun of the movie. One time he hid my PF Fliers in the toilet and I had to go to school in wet shoes.

I am entering a very stressful time in my life and this is a level of stress I do NOT need when I am trying to take exams. Ghost Dad refuses to let me study at all. The best I can do is to go into the other room and turn on "TV Land" because Ghost Dad loves to watch TV Land. Inevitably though my parents will show up and "turn off that gat-dam'dt racket" and Ghost Dad will get back to making fun of me.

I had built a spirit catcher (note to people who weren't really into spirit hunting: NOT a dream catcher) out of stuff I got at radioshack for like ~$20, but I would have NO idea how to build it now, or if that technology even still works on spirits. My parents sold my old spirit catcher at a yard sale to some idiot, (s)he won't even be able to use it without the activator code. If anyone could help me build another one of these it would be MUCH appreciated.

Oh well, I don't even expect anyone to be into spirit hunting anymore. Is anyone else haunted by Ghost Dads of their own? I'll settle for some cool spirit stories if nobody has any information on spirit hunting.

Are you sure that "Ghost Dad" isn't just staying in the mortal plane until some unfinished business has been taken care of?
I mean, it doesn't really sound like it, but you never know.

I've never been able to have a sincere conversation with him. It's quite possible he's making fun of me to hide some insecurities of his own. I'm going to be studying for my psychology final soon, I'll review my defense mechanisms and see if I can apply anything here. Good point, though. I should work on something that's not so harsh and physical.

talking to ghosts is never a good idea, especially not a "Ghost Dad" - i would advise being careful in how you handle your interactions with him

No, that's just Bob. I'm paying him to do that.

I just realized today - he never follows me into the attic. When I go up there he just wanders around the main floor and is quite somber for a few minutes when I get back.

Don't worry - I still have a bit of knowledge from my spirit hunting days. I can remember how to talk to them. Also he can't see what I type on the computer for some reason, that's why it's ok for me to be talking to you guys about this :)

I've tried to get inside his head today but he keeps blocking me out, telling me to keep that "new-age liberal ****" away from him.

That's no coincidence. There's something in your attic that may be directly related to the guy.

Do you have any information about him? You did say he haunted you before, after all.
Most importantly, do you know who he was before he left the mortal plane? Probably not, since you would've mentioned that, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

interesting - do you think that his political leanings could be relevant to finding out who he is? do you think that discovering his identity would be helpful in eliminating your problem?

If you want to get rid of him, move across a body of water; spirits can't cross large bodies of water.

Use bread, and get a peasant to eat it.

Because I read somewhere that ghosts go into bread, and can be eated by peasants.

God, sshhh. I don't need to get any more paranoid about this.

I don't. Maybe I could interrogate him about it. He might find it soothing to talk about his life. Or he might be really bothered by it and that's why he's acting so insecure right now. I don't have any information on him in particular - he's an older man who is a bit portly, but that doesn't really narrow down the list to any usable length.

interesting - do you think that his political leanings could be relevant to finding out who he is? do you think that discovering his identity would be helpful in eliminating your problem?

1) I don't think so. Unless he was extremely relevant to a particular cause, political leanings don't generally help you pinpoint a specific person.

2) I don't see how it would hurt. But unless I get him to tell me who he is, I'm not imagining it being a really easy task to figure out who he was. I do plan on working on this, though.

If you want to get rid of him, move across a body of water; spirits can't cross large bodies of water.

Oooh. This is an interesting idea. But I'm not really of the age where I can just move to a different continent on a whim, especially when my parents are trying to deal with the problem by pretending it doesn't exist. He doesn't seem to have a vendetta against me in particular anyway, I'm sure if I even did something as simple as moving to a different house he'd be too lazy to follow. He never goes outside anyway.

So, get him to follow you outside, and build a moat around your house. A large moat.

Or just isolate him on a very small island, that'd work.

Visit a neurologist and get a prescription of some nice psychotropic drugs.
That'll get rid of your 'spirits'.

Watch ghostbuster videos. That oughta do it.

But then he won't get to have a moat around his house. D:
