You managed to put in a phrase:

-An universal truth.
-A fine statement.
-An awesome funny thing.
-A gramatically correct phrase.
-A word in caps.
-A smiley

It deserves an entry in a museum.

This is also the point where TakeTwo's sales start dropping now. Thomson got them a lot of media attention.

Ehrm...
Hasn't GTA IV made a sales volume of US$ 500,000,000?

After everyone bought the game, nobody else is left to buy it... Think about it, it makes sense.

It did.
Note the past tense.

It wasn't released long ago either. Five hundred million? After a year, most of the world's money will be with rockstar.

Apparently (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1586971/20080507/id_0.jhtml), that was just for its first week.

Although Halo3 made $170,000 on its first day. Which, come to think of it, seems even more impressive due to being released in the different regions on different days and due to being on one console only.

Anyway, it's all because of the publicity. Nearly every big-shot videogame reviewing site gave it 100% (and not just a 10/10, most of those sites gave it a 100/100 due to their rating systems) before it was released, mostly because they know a bad rating will reduce their publicity (everyone remembers the 8.8 incident, right?) and that's not good, for them. From what I've heard from those who do have it, it's not that flawlessly perfect it's made out to be.

Most big-shot sites use a decimal place, thus making their rankings a 100/100 with no decimal places. I don't say that's 10/10 because when you see something like that, you rarely assume that's including a decimal place.

Its... still 100%? 99% with no decimal places still rounds to 90% y'know... In fact differentiating between a 90% and a 95% is the only benefit to scoring out of 100...

To both of you:

-Plasma, it's exactly the same, and unless it was a joke, it's totally irrelevant.

-Splinter, everyone has the point. No need to argue.

I see where this would get to, as usual.

Taking their time, aren't they?

Some systems round to the nearest significant figure instead of rounding down. Which is why I felt the need to specify.

Oh well.

From what I've heard from those who do have it, it's not that flawlessly perfect it's made out to be.no game will ever be perfect, which is why you never see a 10/10. if there IS a 10/10, as is the case this time, it's only because of publicity for the reviewing company dictates a 10/10 is required where a 9 or 9.5 would normally be given.

either way the point gets across that the game kicks ass because I doubt anyone takes the actual given number to mean anything.

I hope it doesn't. I'd hate to think free speech had erorded that much, and he is funny. I'd hope that he'll think twice before launching another legal battle against them though, and if he does I'd hope he's be expelled from the bar, or lose his bar, or be de-barred, or whatever it is that happens to lawyers that means they don't get to be lawyers any more. Otherwise, what we have here is a meaningless slap on the wrist. We shall see.

In fairness, Fox News is hilarious enough to supplement his quieting-down.
Remember folks, Mass Effect contains full nudity and hardcore sex! Fox News said so, so it must be true.

Edit: Oh, here's something interesting! (http://kotaku.com/349423/jack-thompson-defends-mass-effect) Apparently Thompson isn't actually anti-videogame, he's just anti-videogame-violence.
Suddenly he seems a lot more respectable...

Yeah I heard about it. When I first read it I thought AHHAHAHAHAAA!!!
I mean, I don't really like Rockstar much myself but seriously, making up a load of crap about them just to give them bad publicity? He must have been desperate and seriously drunk when he made a decision like that.

I find it funny how the press complains mostly about the violence in GTA, (or at least over here in britain they do) ...not the sexual themes, or the drugs, but the violence. :-/

I'd like to see more of that. I mean, really. it's ok for a media source to depict guys who blow each others heads off and maim themselves and others in myriad creative ways, but show one nipple and the same source gets marked up a rating? seriously? everyone has sex and where I get that parents don't want to expose their kids to nudity and sex and such, why is that same kid allowed to view the slaughtering of large numbers of people?

Because action movies have it? Because slaughtering large numbers of people can't really be encouraged in today's society but having sex can? Because killing most non-human life is okay, often encouraged even, so why should killing virtual humans be banned?
