I just installed WA on my laptop/vista machine and the first thing I encountered was the installer disapearing on me, I checked the FAQs and disabled the DMA on device manager and that worked.

Then I aplied the 3.0 patch then the 3.6.28 and gfxupdate, everything went fine until I actually tried to RUN the game, this is what happen:

Do you by any chance have an Intel graphics chipset? (Start, type dxdiag into the search box, hit enter, when it loads click display and look at the name of your display card) If so, I'm afraid unless you install the XP drivers (low success rate and disables Aero) or make a Virtual machine, there is currently no way to run WA. This is entirely Intel's fault, as they didn't include full DirectDraw support in their drivers, an old technology that one or two old games, such as WA, relied on.

You applied 3 patches?

All you need is the 3.6.28.0 one.

A virtual machine is basically a virtual computer running within your computer being emulated. Since it is all emulated including directdraw, WA will work no matter what your graphics card is.

For a Virtual machine you need a copy of an old version of Windows (reccomended 98 as that will give best performance, but any version older than Vista that can run WA will probably do), and go to http://worms2d.info/Installing_WA_on_Virtual_PC .
If you can't get Virtual PC to work, and you have Windows 2000 or XP, try here: http://worms2d.info/Installing_WA_on_VMware_Player

VirtualBox is faster than Virtual PC and is simpler to set up than VMware Player.
