Being a 10+ year long fan of the series, my initial reaction to seeing that the game was on sale at amazon was to go buy it ASAP. But then I read some of the reviews.

I have been reading reviews accross the internet and it seems like people either say this is the greatest Worms game ever or that it looks like a Beta version that was only intended to get new players to play the game.

This wide range of comments has convinced me that I want to rent the game before I buy it and I would recomend the same thing to all Worms fans.

Even the responses to the complaints make it sound like they have taken us for granted, assuming that we will by their game at any price.

I say we chill out on this game. If we wait, we might convince them to releas a full featured version.

i don't know if buying/not buying the game would have the impact you want. it will be the publisher who will analyze the sales, and the conclusions they make fall in two categories.

1. people bought the game. make more of exactly the same game with a new box cover.

2. people didn't buy the game. nobody cares about this genre. make more platformers.

edit: i think the best that anyone can do is sign up to the forums and leave a post saying that they were disappointed with directions new worms have taken, and that they want a good worms armageddon update with tactical aspect in place, lots of wacky weapons, and the network issues ironed out. (which you have done.) that'd be the best way to convince t17 and potential publishers that there is market for such a game.

Nail. Head. Hit.
Whether they did a good job of it or not, well, that has to be seen. But it's quite obviously made to introduce people to the Worms series. The first game was released 13 years ago, so I guess they felt the need to introduce it again to the newer gamers since then.
So yes, I'd strongly advise trying it out before buying it. And see what your friends think too, because while it might not appeal to you yourself, it might still be fun for when you've got a party of friends over.

That didn't happen with the W:OW series, y'know. No, I'd reckon that, like I said, this game was made as an introduction game, and a future game in the W:ASO series will be more akin to the Worms series as we know it.

are you talking about psp or ds version? i have played the psp demo, and i was really not impressed with it. movement and rope still had the same problem, the aim reticle was completely off (how did they manage that one?) and while new weapons definitely add to the game, it really wasn't enough to make me buy it. it is precisely the case of 'make more of the same, instead of fixing anything' problem. i might have bought anyways it if i haven't spent money on wow earlier, but spending money on that game again? no, thanks. they would really have to make an improvement before i buy another psp worms.

i know that the version on ds underwent better improvements. especially compared to the first attempt on the ds, which i am told was horrible. do you have the ds version? maybe we're just looking at it from completely different perspectives. keep in mind, however, that team17 did not develop the ds versions.

With any well-loved game, any change runs the risk of disappointing valued fans. As you're a long-time fan of the game (which makes me all kinds of chuffed, thanks!) all I can say is, try it and see. You may be surprised. I hope you'd be enjoyably surprised.

I'd rather that you rented WASO, thought, "this ain't for me," and, perhaps , looked forward to what next we make, than buy WASO, be disappointed and turn your back on us forever.
