I've been playing Trackmania Nations Forever recently, it's ranking system is excellent and I think it's something that Worms should steal. Ranks are broken down into regions, for example after 5 races I am ranked
334110/453850 worldwide
15919/21941 United Kingdom
13776/18960 England
2951/3959 SouthEast England

Anyway while I was thinking about this I remembered that there used to be a rank list on the old Team17 site so I hit up archive.org and found these

Bring that back some day.

Why did they get rid of it in favor of what we have today (like the cool stuff on the site, other than ranks)?

Ghost;646727']Why did they get rid of it in favor of what we have today (like the cool stuff on the site, other than ranks)?

Ranks, leagues and awards depended on everyone having a wormnet account.
Back in 2000 Wormnet was down for maintenance or something but Kufner discovered how to bypass the login screen by editing the serverlist url. He sent the new serverlist to a couple of people, we sent it to more people and before you knew it there was a full invasion.
An unfortunate side effect of this was that you could enter any username you liked and use anyones account which completely broke the leagues and it hasn't been fixed since.

Cybershadow and Deadcode will be working on that, while trying to make a system more secure from hackers.

It's nice that someone remains optimistic after 8 years of fail but I'd have thought something like that would have ranked higher on the development list than playing with 48 worms, copy pasta chat box text and Latvian flags.
No offense to DC and CS, I have more respect for them than Team17, but bigger maps for bigger mspaint drawings of Thundercats isn't as much of an incentive to play as leagues/ranks.
Some of us miss grinding in pro.

I hope they don't forget the 'can your game be broken by a 15 year old German' QA check in the future.

Guess thats just a matter of opinion man, some of us are just on WN to have fun, not to compete. And the latest update with bigger maps and TS have created opportunity for many new schemes, new ways to play, and more diversity in gameplay equals more fun. Leagues/ranks can get sheepshagged for all I care. :p

BTW, i love that internet archive thing, but unfortunately I dont get to see much, most pages are dead, and those that do come up don't show me more than empty img containers :(

The images are cached but just not in the right place for certain pages to find them.
Here's a list of all archived stuff from worms.team17.com, several thousand items

It's amazing to look back 10 years. I wonder what I was doing 18th Dec. 1998...

Anyone got a copy of this ad? Might be fun to watch.

Also, the TV schedule brings back memories.

In TMNF I'm ranked 300/1096 for Scotland...yay me.
14042/21941 out of the UK.

I think a rank system like this would be good. Maybe they could set up a filter for the scheme name and "trap" out the Roper games, WxW games etc and then make ranks according to the scheme types.

Yes, the hell with having new features or gameplay improvements. Nobody wants that stuff. It's all about having an enduring monument to your petty victories against anonymous strangers on the internet. That's what everyone really needs in a game. How else can you impose your throbbing ego on other anonymous strangers on the internet? It's not as if there's any other means of personal validation available in life: we need to know how many fourteen-year-olds we're better than at a sort of beefed-up version of Gorillas!

So being in the 73% percentile in Scotland is the equivilent of being in the 36% percentile in the rest of the UK? Geez, the Scots must suck at driving!

Is this the thread where we reply to year-old posts? Well then, allow me to join in:It's nice that someone remains optimistic after 8 years of fail but I'd have thought something like that would have ranked higher on the development list than playing with 48 worms, copy pasta chat box text and Latvian flags.
Yes, if only it depended just on us. Not only is making a secure system with W:A's ingeniously original WormNET IRC+HTTP contraption non-trivial, but I also found out that anything which is to run on Team17's servers is to go through a code review - and, well, Team17 doesn't really have time for that kind of thing right now (or possibly ever). And yes, this actually puts W:A 4.0's redesigned all-singing all-dancing WormNET in limbo as well.

1 can't ask team17 to provided a (virtual) server just for the new WormNET, and separate to the rest of their informatic stuff?
2 can't do make all of this unofficial and setup a server somewhere?

And advertise it on WormNET.

I'd say if DC/CD would make it "unofficial", being on another server and/or such, Team17 would immediately react and in a rather negative way - taking away the name "Worms Armageddon", for example.

You cant just call a game "4.0"!!!

The thing is that a post so old I can't remember it looks the same as a post so new I haven't seen it.

waybackmachine doesn't back everything up though :( lost all the brilliant NES cheats from robsgaming.com :(

No one else had such a exhaustive list of cheats and actual working game genie codes etc.

robowurmz
29 May 2009, 13:35
I think that there's a gamegenie website that now holds all of the codes and what they do. Also, take a trip to gamefaqs, they've usually got extensive Game Genie (and code) lists in either the FAQ area or the Cheats/Codes area.

naah, not for NES games, both tend to lack quite a few.
