The purpose of this thread is to be a comprehensive reference to anyone with a Worms Armageddon/Windows Vista compatibility problem. I thought I would start this after several hours of looking up information on how to solve my particular problems. There seem to be many different problems faced by many different people, several of which have been solved or half solved.

If you have had a problem with running WA on vista which you solved, post your problem here with the solution. It is very important to be specific about the problem you had and the solution you used.

For my part I encountered three problems:

1) The frontend was discoloured but when playing a game the colours were normal.
Solution: Several people noted that using windows explorer to open the directory that the .exe for WA is in solves this problem. It worked perfectly for me. Closing explorer with WA running leaves the frontend discoloured again.

2) The frontend is extremely slow.
Solution: If you have the latest beta update installed, navigate to your WA directory, open the "Tweaks" folder and double click on the "SlowFrontendWorkaround.reg" file. The frontend will speed up next time you run the game.

3) The in-game frame rate is so slow and choppy that it is unbearable.
Solution: This is believed to only happen to people using Nvidea graphics card. I was using an Nvidea GeForce 6800. I solved this problem by installing the latest Forceware drivers from here (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_169.25_whql.html). These fixed the problem.

And I am happy to report that WA is now working perfectly on Vista for me.

I got around the color problem by checking the 'disable desktop composition' option in WA.exe's properties window but now i can't restore if i minimise.
I also used some other fixes like the wkcolorfix but same thing happens :(

Are you running W:A as administrator?

I don't know if it's related to Vista, I think not because Worms Armageddon worked fine in Vista before. I got a new graphics card and reinstalled Vista from a fresh format. When I start a game, the game just seems slow and when I open the weapon's menu, it does not appear in smooth motion at all. When I press the INSERT button to change the background to solid black, the weapons menu displays fast, and Worms appears to be running smoother. When I lower my resolution from 1920x1200 to say 1600x1200, the game is faster.

What's causing this? My computer is powerful, it should be able to run this game with ease. I tried SlowFrontendWorkaround_On.reg in the tweaks folder but it did not help. I also tried turning AA and AF off in the Catalyst Control Centre but it made no difference. I have the latest Worms update and using Catalyst 9.5 drivers.

My specs are below:

Intel Core 2 Quad 9450 (With Thermalright Ultima Heatsink & 120mm Fan) - 2x2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 (PC2-6400) 4-4-4-12 - XFX Radeon HD 4890 XXX 1GB - Abit IP35 Pro XE - Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 750GB - Corsair HX Series 620W - Creative Sound Blaster X-fi XtremeMusic - Hyundai W240D-PVA 24" - Hauppauge WinTV HVR-4000 - Windows Vista Home Premium x64 SP1

Almost surely bad drivers. Try updating them, and if it doesn't help, complain to your video card manufacturer.

Are you running W:A as administrator?
yes.
the options i checked are 'disable desktop composition' and 'run as admin'
if i fix the color problem, i can't restore after i minimize
if i don't use any fix, i can restore but the game crashes or just hangs and i hav to shut down.
guess we can't have 'em all :D

Not being able to restore after minimizing is caused by running W:A as admin. Try setting up W:A so that it doesn't have to run as admin to work. You just need to install it to a folder where you can write to as a non-administrator. The default installation path usually works fine (I assume you edited it to install to "Program files").

ah that did it!
nope. the game hangs up after a few restores and i have to shut down.

i asked someone in ag about this(i think his nick was cheetah) and he said i should use scroll lock before minimizing to lock the colors.
either way it hangs up few secs after i restore
thanks :)
