View Full Version : Rewind
I think Lemmings needs a rewind feature. I don`t know if Lemmings for PS3 has it. Restarting in a big long stage can be a pain.
If there was a rewind feature, you could win the game in one sitting.
And I haven't even played any Lemmings games (except when i went to the gaming thing at the National History Museum, and I only played 2 levels).
But yeah, it could be annoying if your on a big stage.
Neutral.
Some of my editor stages are long. Every time I make a stage, there`s a hard part. I even get nervous when I reach the hard part. If I messed up, is back to the beginning for me. Spamming the restart has to go. Or make a limit bar of how much you can rewind.
By the way, how come I can only view a topic when i`m logged in?

I suppose 'because you need to be logged in to view topics' isn't quite the answer you're looking for.
For testing levels, rewind could indeed be very helpful (a devmode to play maps?), but I don't think it would help the gameplay much. Half of tension is because you know you'd have to go back to the start if you mess up.
I've only ever played the original Lemmings though.
Having some sort of mid-point in a part might be nice, but you shouldn't be making your levels so big in the first place.

It's a forum setting. I'm not sure myself why it was included in the first place though.
Not all of my levels are long. It`s just to rewind back if you mess up in a certain part that`s it`s always annoying.

My word, Luis2. You have missed the point of Lemmings entirely. This is the single worst suggestion I have ever heard anyone make for any game anywhere in the history of all things.
Why is that? It can make the game less annoying and easier. Do you have fun spamming restart?
As I said, if there was a rewind function, the game would be all to easy for anyone to complete, and it just wouldn't be fun. Yes, it could be annoying on a hard level, which is what adds to the fun.
"Ohnoe i diedd lets rewind and complet teh gaem in 1 siting".
Or, as someone suggested, don't make your levels long.
I did mention that there would be a bar meter that shows how much rewind you have left. When you rewind, it drops down and the only way to refill it is to restart.

No. It completely defeats the purpose of Lemmings, and it ruins the mechanic of the game. It's be like adding an "Undo" feature to Tetris.
lol, I could imagine Tetris having an undo feature. It wouldn`t be a puzzle game anymore.

Which is exactly why a rewind feature in Lemmings is a terrible, terrible idea.
The reason why I make my stage annoying for myself, is to gain that satisfied feeling after beating it. And yes I even make my stage difficult to annoy myself. But in the end, i`m satisfied for beating a new stage.
It sounds to me like the problem here lies with your level design.
If that one part really is that difficult, then move it to it's own level. Have the level compose entirely of just that.
Trust me, there's a Lemmings-esque game called Ducks (http://www.hungrysoftware.com/games/ducks/) ("oh dear god he's linking to it again!" I hear you cry), and I've been making levels for it for the past 8 years, and I've made my fair share of terrible level design. I'm now of the opinion that if it ****es me off, then there's no hope for anybody else.
I've been making levels for it for the past 8 years,
You mean you had been making levels for it for the past 8 years. I'm still waiting on that level pack you said was nearly finished.
I practice the hard part. Every time I make a level, there`s has to be a hard part, or else the level will be too easy and maybe gets boring fast. A difficult stage will make me come back for more.

"Come back for more"?
Yes.
To one level.
Yes.
That you've already completed.
Yes.
...Alright.

It can make the game less annoying and easier.
putting the exit right next to the drop point would also make the game less annoying and easier.
a lot of fun could be had with re-wind feature, but it really should be available only on levels which you are building or have already beaten.
I have a level that has an exit that is close to the start point. It`s called: Temple of Return.
Now that I see this thread again, a rewind feature would be good for editor/finished levels.
But I lol'd at some of the posts here, especially this one:
Yes???????
