Im seeing a weird occurrence with WA.

Im running Vista 64 home premium edition...
intel quad core Q6600...
eva 8800 GT KO video card with the most current drivers etc.

quite often, when the game changes resolutions ... the colors get all crazy. Like a bad tie dye shirt. This makes the game pretty much unplayable.

However, i found that if I minimize the game and then restore it, it is fine.

Anyone else see this and/or know of some solid fixes?

Is a common problem, caused by the pallete getting locked. Look in pallete.log in the game dir to see what did it.

Yeah, same problem here. I'm on an ASUS laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit, AMD Turion 64 x2 (TL-60), ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600, 2 gigs of RAM, etc...

My colors get all kinds of jacked up. Minimizing in-game and restoring won't fix it at all though. I'm just hoping that there will be some Vista bug-fixes in the next patch, cuz there's a ton of them.

God, I hate vista...

By the way, Can, I'm not sure what I'm looking at in the palette log. Here's what I got:

[2008-04-20 02.55.11] Palette set by 0x500FC ""
[2008-04-20 02.55.11] Palette set by 0x10010 "" [csrss.exe]
[2008-04-20 06.48.52] Palette set by 0x503F8 ""
[2008-04-20 06.48.52] Palette set by 0x10010 "" [csrss.exe]
[2008-04-20 07.08.27] Palette set by 0xE0118 ""
[2008-04-20 07.08.27] Palette set by 0x10010 "" [csrss.exe]
[2008-04-20 07.12.29] Palette set by 0x1203B8 "" [[System Process]]
[2008-04-20 07.12.29] Palette set by 0x10010 "" [csrss.exe]
[2008-04-20 07.13.29] Palette set by 0xA0406 "" [[System Process]]
[2008-04-20 07.13.29] Palette set by 0x10010 "" [csrss.exe]

WTF does it all mean? Lol!

I think it means that those are the programs that stole W:A's palette, messing up the colours.

and theres is a high chance you can't do much about it since they are critical vista processes.

Ive worked around it a number of ways, such as having the WA directory open and running it from wa.exe in there, compat mode on wa.exe: turn off composition and visual themes.

You've tried all of the possible options? Running WA from WA.EXE, fiddling with all the right click --> properties --> compatibility settings, and disabling Aero? Post your palette.log like adamantium did, it might be a different process.

Also, try closing all messengers (eg Windows Live Messenger), firewalls, AntiViruses, basically anything that isn't vital to stop Windows from crashing, and try again. Then, enable the programs one-by-one until you find the culprit.

Had the same problem. I'm running W:A on a Sony VAIO VGN-FE41Z, with an Intel Duo Core T7200 2 GHZ processor, 2 Gigs of RAM, Vista Home Basic, and a GeForce GO 7600.

I read the pallette.log, and found that MSN messenger was messing up the pallete. Exited MSN, ran wa.exe, and it's all to the good again :)

Spoke to soon. Now the pallete is messed up again, thanks to csrss.exe, which I believe is a system process, so little can be done. I've tried disabling desktop composition and visual themes to no avail.

Sorry for the double post. I hope someone can provide a workaround/solution.

Thanks

Cheese

I had the exact same problem and running similar setup to yourself except for 8600GT.

After browsing around the forums and google couldn't find a solution, so after playing around a bit if I manually kill the explorer.exe process and then from task manager run WA.EXE it seems to be a work around.
