Well, all the current Worms games are online and multiplayer. Looks like you are not very informed about Team17, heh ? :p

oops! :) No I didnt realise, Ive always wanted to create something 'Cutting Edge' something thats not been done before,

I like the concepts of, Planetside and World of Warcraft, I cant stop thinking of what HASNT been done and what is plausable to create, for example I have been thinking...

a) MMORPG (WaterWorld)
a game based upon the vast ocean with forts every now and again, I thought of this but then dismissed it because I dont think it has enough potential because it will just be... well... water! you cant blame me for trying! :)

However if anyone could make something decent of this let us know your thoughts....

Pete

Are you suggesting a Worms MMO? That would be very strange.

No, it's not that. It's just an interesting idea. We get a lot of things about Real-Time Worms, but I've not really thought hard at all about an MMO. Hmm.

Really? It still pops up now and again.

Yeah, there was this thread: http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=34756

I think I was the only one who took it at least somewhat seriously, though.

I think that a worms MMORPG would be a contradiction in terms.

Well there definitely wasn't any discussion of a Worms RPG here until you brought it up...

A game can be multiplayer, but not online.
More rarely, a game can be online, but not multiplayer. :p

That's not the reason tho.

Alight, a Worms MMO Might Just Be Awesome, Unless Everything is Turned based and every single player on the Game Will have to wait for The Other 5878894756 worms to go and gain a level in a 45 second time limit.:p

i remember playing it. somebody from korea, or w/e shared an account. it was nothing particularly interesting. just your normal wa/wwp with some strange ranking system that included various customizations. nothing really mmo about it.

it's a bit difficult to come up with a good concept for worms mmo that is still worms. for one thing, you'd be running out of terrain mighty fast. and then there is waiting for turns... sure, you can make it like liero, with real time and only one worm per player, but is it still worms, then?

Hmm, maybe not an MMO, but perhaps a Roguelike? Roguelikes can do the whole Turn Based thing. Of course, we have Dwarf Fortress for that.

could you please clarify what roguelike means? i'm not familiar with the term.

You mean you've never heard of Rogue? Or Nethack?! I thought you were supposed to be some 1337 programmer who knows all about games? Just look up Nethack on Wikipedia that'll tell you all about it.

quakerworm
13 May 2008, 09:11
heh. i came across nethack before, but i never heard this genre being called roguelike.

and who said i'm supposed to know everything about games? i only ever claimed to have extended knowledge of game engines. and that hardly makes me an expert in history of terminal gaming.

There are many turnbased online games like gunbound(i dont know if its online right now) and arcanists(almost a worms clone).

Not to mention that several of the Team17 Worms games are online.
Which is why Quaker said "MMO", meaning "Massively Multiplayer Online".

Imagine a regular online game but with just one server.
