View Full Version : How long did it take you to learn this game?

Heyhey.

I've been playing WFUS a few times now. I actually have it for a very long time, but it was just frustrating. I got my ass kicked by even the easiest PC enemies (while in ALL other worms games i usually battle larger teams of the hardest PC worms available and win)

The only weapons i hit with every once in a while are the balista, giant laser, rhino, hippo and of course strike weapons. If I'm trying trebuchets, catapults, rocket launchers, mortars or basically the majority of weapons I usually only shoot big holes into the landscape (well, if it were at least that, but there arent even holes coming up).
And this is the major advantage of computer worms, they are naturally perfect at firing indirect shots, while I barely ever use weapons designed for this, or if i use them, then not in this way (i often drop grenades next to the enemy worms or fire direct bazooka shots, but i rarely rely on my skils to fire at something over an obstacle, except in the 2D games maybe).
Then there is the jerky camera usually making my worm movements take twice as long as in any other games.

So is it just training I need to make all those weapons work, and get the camera under control?
If so, how long did you need to train until you could actually take out computer controlled enemies? Or is there maybe a trick on how to estimate what angle and power you need to fire a catapult or the like precisely?

Thanks.

Yeah, it's just practice, really.

So how long did it take you until you had considerable results?
Also do the tutorial missions help anything?

I was always okay against the computer, although some of the missions were really tough.

I did find the rhino almost ludicrously useful, though. You can take out a whole team of worms with a rhino if you get lucky.

I agree. It took me 3 months to complete all the missions!

Ehh... I didn't really have much problems against the easy computer at all. I remember that took ages trying to win in the 5th training mission though.

okay, ive been trying around a game against myself. It all came down to this:
The red team was first hitting blue team pretty bad. Then somehow without noticing i turned the tables shooting 2 red team buildings down, causing the whole flank to crash. from that point on it was just a constant back and forth. The red team didnt have any buildings left and couldnt build anything new, their whole other flank at some point was only depending on one tower that was out of blue teams sight. Then sudden death started and did nothing but annoying the crap out of me. (seriously it didnt do anything but prolonging the end of the game even more, even worms on the ground were safe from it)
After a while i just had enough then, and started to shoot red team's link building even with the red team. After that shot the battle was suddenly over and blue team won. I dont really know why.

I did hit quite a few shots with the fridge launcher, siege onager and chili con carnage this time though. But also wasted some rhinos. a shot that went to high (because i wanted to fire it over the central pool) sent the rhino towards the water and i couldnt steer it away anymore, while another rhino did quite a bit of damage to the blue teams flank but, before becoming really effective it was also repelled into the water.

Oh, by the way, I'd advise getting the 'patch' that allows for extended round time before sudden death. Try using the search function for it, as I don't have a link myself.
Because 1/2 hour is rarely enough time to play a round.

Yeah, Plasma's right, you should definitely get the patch. Saves a lot trouble. You can get it here (http://www.dream17.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=172&hilit=Worms+forts+patch).

I cannot say I find the computer players a huge challenge. But then, I have not tried playing them in a while. Some of the missions were tough though. I seem to recall the fourth Greek level in particular getting on my nerves.

fourth greek was easy for me[/not being indin]...it's the first greek mission that made me mad, they just kept on hitting me with 100% accuracy! i'm reall good at the game now[/not showing off because it's something my friend sed]. i kept on making him mad because no matter where he went the wind seemed to be on my side.

Thanks for the patch. level 1 computer is a joke. Actually i dont really know anymore what was my problem back at that time. i think it was that while up to a certain AI level the computer enemy wasnt more than a bad joke, but just the next level was invincible for me.

Ive been playing singleplayer a little. 3rd egyptioan mission ****ed me off. I wasted half an hour of my life on it just to fin out that instead of sudden death mode, the mission is failed after round time runs out.
I dont really feel like playing the singleplayer at all anymore. not as long as that level is in my way...
