View Full Version : Who on this forum, apart from staff and mods, do you respect the most?

Muzer
20 Feb 2008, 10:34
I'd have to say bonz. I dunno why, just he seems a kind of respectable guy, he knows a lot, and he's in the alpha testing, and he's funny. Good ol' Austrian humor.

Metal Alex
20 Feb 2008, 15:13
I'd say Paul Power. I'd say he's one of the few people with common sense around here.

Shadowmoon

I don't really know, but I think it's Kelster because she is awesome, especially at drawing, and doesn't show off in dumb, pointless threads like a few good artists here.

Plasma
20 Feb 2008, 17:32
Hmm... I'd definitely have to say that Plasma guy is the one I respect the most, definitely!

Okay, excluding me and Kelster, I'd have to say... Paul. Followed by either Melon or Kilburn.

I dunno why, but Plasma, Basti@n and yauhui.
YES!Yauhui and Basti@n are my faves though.
Bugger.

I don't really know, but I think it's Kelster because she is awesome, especially at drawing, and doesn't show off in dumb, pointless threads like a few good artists here.
Also YES! although less significant.

That's okay. Perhaps I'll ban you for a few days.

Xinos
20 Feb 2008, 22:44
I really like that Xinos guy, he's sure is great. He always gets those boring threads going again with his acute sense of humor and keen insight to our daily life problems.
I often lie awake at night thinking about how great he is.
If I ever were to meet him in real life I'd introduce him to all the hot girls that I know and give him a trophy!
Thanks guys! That's very kind of you to think that of me.. well, that is an accurate representation of your minds... right?

Basti@n
21 Feb 2008, 00:02
Why do i have to respect someone?

I dunno. Although i guess... Nobody. Applauses!

Basti@ns my fave though.

Ooooo...

Of course Paul, S2K and the Mods squeeze on the podium for first place.

Plasma, Kel, Muzer, Pigbuster, Philby and the likes come in 2nd, and Yakuza (and others who fall into the same category) goes third for supreme fighting spirit.

In true Buddhist fashion, everyone equally. Some a little less equally, though. Many of them you've covered already, so for the sake of their egos, here's a few underdogs:

Franpa for his commendable consistency not letting the teasing get to him too much. :p
Wormetti for helping T17 deal with all the crap up there in the New Titles forums that seems inevitable when you switch to making games for popular consoles.
Vader for apparently having made peace with the fact that 666 will never be his IP. Also because I don't like the idea of watching my BRAINSSS get chewed on.
Yakuza for his ability to bait people into tearing his arguments apart even when they basically agree with what he's saying.
Blinx for his superior taste in music. :o
Lex because he needs to come back. :(

And obviously Deadcode and CyberShadow for doing what they've been doing in spite of what others seem to be doing. Or not doing, for that matter.

Side note: Annual smiley face quota fulfilled.

Edit: I also respect those who can tell, without too much effort, when an avatar fad is over. Dammit, Muzer, Matty and a few others!

Actually, I'd say it would be because you're not a dunce, as I never try to disrespect particularly smart people. Your intolerance of stupidity would probably be a good thing if you weren't too quick to jump the gun and blame everything on somebody's ignorance.

Oddly, I still respect Squirminator. That'll probably make his head explode just thinking over it. Nicely put. I'll go further and say I DON'T respect anyone who is tightly coiled up ready to spring the phrase "N00B!!1" at anyone who makes the slightest hiccup anywhere. Ever. And especially the people who can't distinguish between a real n00b and a newbie.
Thankfully there aren't many people on this forum who do that.

Well that's not why he joined here, at any rate. Perhaps certain other forums, yeah. Y'know, forums set up by people who take the internet far too seriously...?

In any case, I don't see what the problem is in pointing out the inaccuracies and idiocies of people on the Interwebs. If someone's being stupid or just plain wrong, there's nothing wrong with calling them out on it. That's one of the reasons HaK and I got into our little Blood Feud - his information concerning Amiga emulation was grossly inaccurate, as are (in my opinion) his claims towards expertise in hacking, skateboarding, DJ'ing, General-Managering, and expensive-shades-owning.

What do you dislike about Angelus? That he doesn't take the internet seriously/ What is there to take seriously? Yes, it's a good resource for information and a great way to communicate with other people, but beyond that you're looking at loads of people who write in their blogs as if they're the single most important person in the world, you've got people setting up little forums and then lording over them as if they are some kind of epic undertaking, and you've got people taking Holier Than Thou attitudes because they happen to have spent more time sitting in one corner of the internet than others.

People who mock other people all the time are just people who have nothing more to do than mocking somebody every day.
He doesn't mock people all the time. Nor do I, in fact - I'm generally a rather amiable person. i just don't have any time for ignorance or stupidity.

I find great irony in Squirminator saying that people who don't like people being harsh to them online take the internet too seriously, and using it as a point as to why it's okay to not like people being stupid to them online.
And I really can't help but laugh at Squirminator trying to have a debate with people on the internet that said people on the internet shoudn't be so serious!

In my own opinion, Squirminator and MtlAngelus should have a right to point out your less-than-genius statements and point out how they're wrong and such, to point out to the origional poster why it's stupid, but they do it in such a mean-spirited way that it does much more bad than good.

Shadowmoon takes the internet rather seriously (as do I, naturally enough. Heck, if it wasn't for said seriousness, I wouldn't have the brilliant girlfriend I have now), while it is presumed Angelus does not on account of him not treating others with as much respect as he should. Obviously I'm flattered to see my name turning up so much in this list. I do try to keep my posting honest and unbarbed, albeit often horrendously off topic (and sometimes I can't resist making complicated jokes that nobody gets. But oh well).

Generally speaking, I don't have a problem with People being People. What I have a problem with, personally, is People being Stupid. There's an overabundance of such people on the internet, which baffles me.

Shadowmoon, you take the internet incredibly seriously. You set up your own Invision Free Board, and invited people to join, and the people who joined were people who were already registered to Yauhui's Invision Free Board, who in turn are registered in HaK's Invision Free Board. You've got a lovely little network of forums I reckon only twenty people actually visit (and that's a generous estimate). If these forums were at the very least linked to some kind of website then maybe, maybe, their existence would be justified. But they aren't - they're there solely to be there - a giant circlejerk of forums, a group of people sitting in a circle and giving each other congratulatory (easy come easy go - Ed.) jobs because they each filled out a form, were "rewarded" with a forum of their very ownsome, and "customized" them to death.

Yauhui himself says he has put "a lot of work" into his forum. What work, exactly? He made a banner by PrintScreening the Team17 forum and then added some text to it. He's added a lot of mess to the bottom of the screen, so that pressing the End key on my keyboard, which I generally use to get to the forum stats and "Today's Top Posts" links, instead take me to some inane "Button Game" which serves absolutely no purpose, isn't actually fun, and has been played maybe once or twice by everyone on the forum. Not to mention the fact that if it were removed anyone who would miss it would be able to find it incredibly easily elsewhere on the internet.

The only reasons I joined his forum were to a) respond to some mis-information and abuse HaK posted on Dream17, and b) to monitor Yauhui's posting of Dream17 news posts as his own content, something he asked me to do and something I said I was alright with so long as he made sure to link to the original post and avoid copying any images that may be posted across. Now the HaK thing is resolved (to a degree, that is - I still think he's making up a lot of his so-called accomplishments, but he accepts I don't believe him and we've come to an understanding which means he doesn't have to put me to shame with his skateboarding DJ skills while he hacks my computer from his personal office at the building where he works as General Manager of Really Expensive Sunglasses), and the news posts thing continues to be a point of contention but I'm sort-of accepting it for the moment, but under different circumstances I highly doubt I'd post on his forum at all. Hell, I sure as buggery don't post on your forum, and I have no intention of doing so.

The major point, Shadowmoon, is that the things you post are more often than not complete and utter tot. You're sitting here saying that the internet is the single greatest invention of all time, but if that's the case then how come the human race has, in the words of Steven Moffat, "turned the Internet into an enormous international database of naked bottoms"? Yes, the internet is a good research tool, but so is the Encyclopedia Britannica. Yes, it's a great way to communicate, but then so are letters or the telephone (or, dare I say it, face-to-face human interaction - lawks!). Beyond that, the internet is just a bunch of computers wired together with a cup-and-string network which is quite easily collapsible at a moments notice purely because someone flicked the wrong switch in a server facility in Houston, or someone dropped an anchor in the wrong part of the ocean.

The internet may have become part of the gears of society, but that's not to say it is essential. Society survived perfectly well without the internet thirty years ago. I wonder if you could survive a week without the internet yourself?
