Why did wormers make so many black and white maps?

Because once upon a time, Worms Armageddon, not unlike Worms World Party, did not support colour PNG maps, and the only kind of maps you could play online with were the generated maps, and the "graffitti" maps you can draw in the game's map editor (but 3rd-party programs existed that allowed converting images to this format).

Because at the time of the game's release, humans didn't have colour vision yet.

Similar like clothes and plants were black and white only hundred years ago, as you can see in early silent movies.

It only came around about the 70s, and then it was still pretty grainy colour.

Crack jokes all you like, gentlemen, but the top third of all the BIT maps ever created are worthy of being displayed in a museum of contemporary art.

I dare anyone here to say the same for more than the top 0.5% of WA's colour maps.

Yes, but those programs only appeared years after. People just imported the map to the editor and the editor itself converted them to .BIT maps.
Sorry for being pedantic :p
