Right. So Microsoft are making another console.

And this justifies it being made a thread how?

Great news, but on the downside, we will have to wait for a couple more years.

MrBunsy
15 Dec 2007, 13:17
Why's that a downside? I can't see all the 360 owners leaping to spend more money quite yet. Besides, it's more than powerful enough to last a while longer.

Great news, but on the downside, we will have to wait for a couple more years.check the history. nearly every console has had a life span of about 5 or so years. 96-00 was N64/PS1. 00-06 is GC/PS2/XBox. 06~10 will be the Wii, PS3 and 360. the exact dates vary from company to company, but you can pretty well expect about 5 years of life from each console these days.

It's not going to be called Wii2, by the way. I rather wish people would stop calling it that.
Nintendo tries to innovate with every console they make (Though I'm not sure that the Gamecube did anything too special).
I really doubt they're going to make a Wii with improved graphics their next console.

This topic belongs in general video game gabbin' anyway, but nevermind.

i wonder what nintendo will make next. I don't really see much they can make, except a new and improved wii.

I'm still waiting for the next handheld console generation. I guess it'll still be quite long till that though.
*Dreams of a DS with good CPU and Graphics, full 3D handheld pokemon game, etc*)

Oh, and I suppose you saw motion sensitive lightgun controllers as standard coming, did you?

These people are in charge of console development for a reason.

And Microsoft aren't going to call the next console the Xbox720 either. But it's easier to say that kind of stuff than to say 'Nintendo's next console'.

Though I'm not sure that the Gamecube did anything too special
It's the 3D equivilent of the SNES, GBC and GBA: nothing innovative added, but it was born from a dire need of a graphics upgrade.

It's the 3D equivilent of the SNES, GBC and GBA: nothing innovative added, but it was born from a dire need of a graphics upgrade.now that you mention it, every other nintendo console was simply an improvement on the innovative one. the next one will probably just have better graphics and motion controls based on that pattern.

That's... actually rather interesting.
I think I figured that out a while ago, but forgot about it.

They could break the pattern, but it seems the next handheld they're working on is a fancy DS, so it looks like they want to keep to it.
The one system that DID break the pattern was the Gameboy Micro, and that didn't do very well. :-/

Maybe Nintendo should call the second Wii the WII. Like, you know, roman numerals. I, II, III, IV, V, VI etc etc.

So, what do you want us to call it? Nobody expects it to actually be called that, but we need something to call 'it'. Wii2 is a better name than "Nintendo's next console".

Shadowmoon
16 Dec 2007, 11:36
Well, it could be called the Super Wii.

I don't think that really counts.

The Micro was just a small GBA, much like the SP or the Pocket Game Boy (which to be fair was brilliant). That was just an existing system in a smaller case, with a few perks like improved backlight. Companies do that from time to time, and you don't count the PSOne or the 360 Elite or that N64 with Pikachu on it as seperate consoles, do you?

What about the GBA? That was a second improvement on the Gameboy.

Yes, but there's only been five of those. Not much of a pattern there.

No, but you can say "right, that's it, no more consoles for me", and as long as you stick to it you can say that's when you stopped, even if it was only an hour ago.

The last console I got was a Snes. :p
Unless you count my ti-89 about 5-6 years ago, which probably does count as I got it mostly for the games. And to cheat on physics/math exams. :p

All I know is that, the Wii aside, Nintendo are fairly dull when it comes to naming their consoles. (http://www.realvg.org/display.php?type=articles&id=55)

Yes, Nintendo should be more innovative, like Sony. When they wanted to make a successor to the Playstation, they called it a Playstation 2. And after that? Playstation 3! Pure genius!
