well I'm half way there:) I don't really feel so new though, but everyone seems to think of me like that. I know how to use most of the tools here, and I know who I do and don't get along with, but I guess I still am new.

edit: so theres nothing good about it?

well people will trust you more once you've been here for a while, but other than that there's nothing good.

generally, beyond the time requirements, we consider someone "senior" when they have established themselves as a productive member of the forum. senior members typically provide good, logical posts that fit in with whatever thread they're posted on, and are accepted as valuable comments.

basically, you don't really HAVE to be here a while, you just have to be someone who knows how to act on a message board. typically, people go through a while where they don't quite know how to act sensibly on a message board, and once they get through that phase, we accept them as a part of the forum and occassionally refer to them as "seniors".

a few years ago, you would get the rank of "senior" by posting 500 posts, and then it would appear under your name where "User Mod" still shows up under AT and TPs' names. Team17 removed those titles (and many other, more entertaining titles) after putting up with people spamming to get to 500 posts as quickly as they could.

it's worth noting that some people (not going to say any names like plasma, of course) have been posting for a while but still aren't generally considered "seniors" because they are so annoying

I generally consider anyone senior who has a 4-digit or less userID (eg: my userid is 600, yauhui's is 64588).

Of course, there are quite a few exceptions to this :p

Really? I thought it was 1,000. 500 just seems pathetic nowadays. Even poninja made more than that!

You know, I deleted this post after HackerMan complained, but actually, given that his contribution to the thread was to accuse all the seniors (whomever exactly they might be) of arrogance, I've restored it.

I mean fair play, say what you like about "seniors" (within reason) but if you do, you can't expect them to play nice in return.

From what I've gathered, the 4-digit (or less) seniors all seem to say that they arrived just after the forum's best times!
Even though all those 4-digit seniors arrived at different times.

Even though all those 4-digit seniors arrived at different times.to my understanding, the "golden age" of the forum would've ended just before philby joined, which was a month before me (if I remember correctly). that's what I've gathered anyway.

When you reach 5000 posts, everything you post turns green, but only people with <3000 posts can see.

Seniors get to infract one non-senior a week without having to provide a reason.

Only seniors are allowed to know that Andrew Taylor is really a spambot-turned good, hiding out from the internet police on team17's servers.

Also, there's at least three of thomasP. You can't tell because their posts all look the same, but there are subtle differences. Only one can remove bans, unlock threads and remove the 'being watched status' and usually does if you ask nicely. So if he won't unlock your thread, just keep asking, you'll find the nice one eventually.

Every post you make outside of avatar absurdity negates a point from your postcount. when you register you start with 10,000 posts.

Also, run doesn't actually exist.

In reality, avatar fads are a tool of oppression. The Evil Veteran Community claims it's just harmless fun, but DON'T LISTEN TO THAT NONSENSE. They were really created by The Man to keep you down and to make you feel depressed for not being part of the "cool kids". In fact, many forum suicides were caused by Avatar fads, but the mods don't want you to know that.

Or the evil ones will just ban you for being irritating and constantly pestering the mods :p

And mods can't set avatars (apart from our own!) - only admins can do that here.

Nah, post count is unreliable. Even I've managed to make more posts than Spadge.
...which would really make a lot of people depressed if they were put on the post count again!

:pthat was gathered from a few members over time. I'd been told for a while that it was shortly before I joined, and then someone else said it was shortly before philby joined, and that's the earliest point of concrete reference for the "golden age" I've seen, so I go with that.

It always puzzles me that people are given respect for spending more time taking to strangers on the internet.

You miss the point completely and utterly. :p

The point was that I no longer find being the 4th highest poster, with a count of somewhere between 7000 and 8000, something to be particularly proud of. More, it represents the amounts of time I've spent here in the last so many years, which is just a bit excessive.

Especially considering most of that was within quite a small amount of time, relatively speaking, which just reminds me of how much I used to spam.

I really don't care for people who post comments like "that looks cool!1" or "i know right/" or something that doesn't contribute. I believe post count is irrelevant and posts should be thoughtful and add something to the discussion, instead of being shallow and padantic.
