This post is designed to be sort-of "instructional" for people who are new to the forum. The hopes is that it will allow new members to integrate themselves nicely into the forum, as well as hopefully cleaning up the posting habits of some of our more braindead posters. Naming no names coughsplutteryauhuihackwheeze. I realise there is already a thread for this. However, it doesn't cover all of these points, so here's me being Clever.

All in all, you can learn the basics of forum posting by watching [this instructional video (http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting)] but I'll outline a few additional bits of common sense that some people seem to have no idea about.

#1: DON'T SHOUT!!!
Sprinkling CAPITAL LETTERS throughout your POSTS, either to indicate SHOUTING or for EMPHASIS, is generally considered a BAD THING. If you CONTINUE to do it, people will generally MOCK YOU. Or that is to say, I WILL MOCK YOU. If you're trying to emphasize something, italics works much better. In addition, using more than two exclamation marks is also a very bad thing!!!!!!!!!!!

#2 Think before you click "Submit"
Honestly. Read what you've written before you click that button. Some posters at the moment coughsplutter<Brainless new member>hackwheeze seem to just be typing the first thing that pops into their head and clicking "Submit". Ask yourself these three questions:

Will my post be relevant?
Will my post be relevant?
Will my post be relevant?

If you're Paul.Power you can generally get away with not bothering to ask yourself these questions, but if someone posts something you find funny in a thread about Worms World Party and you respond by then, purely for example, talking about a website you think is really funny (even though it's not), you can probably do without posting it.

#3: For the Love Of God, please don't type like a Moron
theres nuthin more annoyin than seein posts liek dis that hav no grama or spelin they r the bain of teh internets an they are dificlt 2 rd

its also anoyin when u take sunthin dat cud ezly b 1 paragraf an split it nto lots

dis is not a fone dis is a foreum and ppls liek 2 discus thngs ina civil mana so u mite get ur pnt acrs btr if ur posts r readabul

it dusnt take 2 mins 2 check a spelin on dictionary.com (http://www.dictionary.com/) or chambers (http://www.chambersharrap.co.uk/chambers/features/chref/chref.py/main)

plz try not 2 post leik dis

its rly iritatin

#4: Don't attach crap to your posts
Yes, your picture of a stickman hitting another stickman over the head with a chair is, by all accounts, very nice. But it doesn't belong in a post that has nothing to do with stickmen or chairs.

#5: Don't backseat-moderate
This has become somewhat of a Buzzword for bad posting as of late, so I will clarify what Backseat Moderating is.

backseat Moderating is...

Asking or demanding that a Mod take some kind of action, for example "Will a Mod please lock this thread."
Telling other forumers what they can and cannot do, e.g. "Do not discuss pirate software on this board or the Moderators will ban you."

Obviously the Mods can say these things, but this is referred to as "Frontseat Moderating" or just "Moderating" and is less frowned upon.

#6: Be polite
Try to be polite. Don't throw insults around or verbally abuse people. Definitely don't flame people and certainly don't troll. Generally, I have no problems with mocking people who are actually stupid - in fact an early draft of this thread was "An open letter to yauhui" - but if you're having a debate it's generally a bad idea to call someone a pig-faced moron with all the brains of a particularly dumb glass of water simply because they hold a different point of view to you. The exception to this rule is for people who don't think anything actually exists, because it clearly does and they're just being obnoxious, and possibly stupid.

If you decide not to take this advice then you are a complete and utter moron and I hope you fall in a well and die, in that order.

#7: Have fun!
Or else.

*Stickifies*

I keep meaning to write a proper "Rules" thread some time.... will mention this thread in it when I do.

As this thread obviously isn't working, for the second time, I'm just going to remove all posts and lock it.
