View Full Version : Why not port WA... to PSP/ds?

I'm pretty confused. Why not try to port WA to PSP, and DS if it could do it? PSP's specs are almost that of a reasonable PC that could definately play older worms games, and I'm sure with some play it could support every feature of WA. Why don't we see something less simplified on a handheld?

Because you'd be paying £30-35 for a game you can buy for less than a fiver on the PC?

I have a better idea, why not make it a fps?
And instead of Boggy B, the main character can be renamed Boggy Freeman. Except in the first name replace the B with a G, the first G with an R, the second G with a D, the Y with an O and add a N at the end. Then, instead of being Turn based, make it real time. And instead of using Worms weapons, use weapons like, I don't know, a gravity gun, a shotgun, pistol, crowbar, stuff like that. And make it with impressive realistic graphics. Then instead of having worms, use humans. And instead of it just being a war, it can be a war against... I dunno... an alien race that we shall call... combine... yeah... and also instead of calling it "Worms", call it "Half Life 2"...
Yeah that would rule.

This is silly. I know many people suggest things like "make a worms RPG" or "Make worms more ect"
But I was just suggesting one of the most successful games, that's tried and true still popular today, be ported to a suitable handheld, because it can't fail. What's better than an amazing PC game? The exact same game in your hand so you can hotseat and pass between friends, or get online at work in the bathroom, or at school. Yes, some of us can do that now with an OQO, but... well actually, probobly not. I doubt anyone on this forum owns one.

Do you keep that post saved on your desktop so that you can post it in any thread that it might work in? Because I don't think you read deep enough into this one.

psp actually has more processing power and ram than some pcs that i have ran wa on, so it really wouldn't be a problem from the tech perspective.

so instead, t17 have released a game with more bugs and fewer features. yes, that makes a lot more sense than a port of a solid, well liked game. and then they even made a sequel for it, that managed to get most of the features back, and even added a few useless ones! that is just so much better than just porting it from the start and avoiding all the problems.

do you even think about these things, or do you just have prefabricated responses that can be summarized with 't17 art holier than thou'? i know that you're supposed to be fan and all, but that doesn't excuse you from the simple logic. maybe there was a legitimate reason why t17 could not just port wa, but that was most certainly not it.

and mtlangelus, wtf? seriously.

Yup, Team17 has instead released a game for which they're winning money and have gotten a producer for. I don't think you realize that Team17 are not in a position to do what you personally want or think is a good idea.

yes, i allow for that possibility. but what s2k said is just ridiculous.

But true, all the same. PCs can still run WA fine. Pretty much every laptop on the market that doesn't have an Intel graphics card can run WA fine as well. There's really no need for a new portable update. I'd much rather they continued putting out new 2D games for the DS and PSp. At least that way we'd be getting our money's worth.

any psp/ds game can be made for laptop, yet people prefer to play these games on something they can hold in their hands for some reason.

i can understand the argument of making something truly new if you are going to make a game anyways, but wow was nothing new. it was a stripped down version of w2, if anything. yes, animated 3d backgrounds were neat, but i hope we can both agree that it isn't the most important thing about a worms game. so they really ended up making the same game they have made in the past, only with fewer features, and in the process also invented some new bugs. people were not entirely happy with it. in fact, they demanded a lot of features available in wa, and got a lot of them in wow2.

now, economics and legal issues aside, wouldn't it make much more sense just to port wa in the first place?

No, really, think about it.
T17 could release Half-life 2: episode 3.

Then Valve would be like "OH SH*T, SOMEONE BEAT US TO IT! DAMN!"
And T17 would be like "HAHAHA, ***T B*TCH!" and be getting all the moneys.(Because remember: all companies are 100% pure evil money snatchers).

Awesome idea.

Relax, yes, I could have given you the correct answer, but then again, so could you (to yourself), by performing a very simple search, or using common sense seeing as you have, apparently, played the 2D game series. But anyway, sorry for trying to be funny.

Or why not port it to Nokia NG2.0 phones? It already succeeded on the NGage, so why not make a great comeback? ;D

And then it only would be ONE .sis game without any decreases for .jar versions.
