Hi all,

Could someone tell me the best way to configure my firewall under Vista so that I can host games on wormnet?. In XP I used to open up some specific ports, however there doesn't seem to be that option in Vista (or rather, it's different).

At the moment I've added WA to the list of programs allowed through the firewall, and this seems to work ok. But is it the safest way to do it?. Comments much appreciated :)

Just in case anyone's interested, WA is running fine on my copy of Vista. I installed from CD, immediately patched the game from the latest patch on the T17 website and then selected the options to run the game in Win XP compatibility mode, with 'run as administrator' checked. On startup, the game promptly crashed with an exception violation!!! :p So, on a whim I allowed it to run as a normal Vista application and unchecked 'run as administrator', and hey presto it's all good :)

Bit of an issue with the screen colour going dodgy on start of a game in wormnet, but the 'usual' trick (not that I've had this issue before sometimes... ;)) of hitting escape, minimising to the taskbar and then maximising again sorts it out.

I think adding WA to the list of programs allowed through the firewall should be pretty safe, unless people have figured out ways of sending other people viruses or hacking into their computers through WormNet.

In which case opening the ports required would be just as dangerous.

No worries, TITCO. Allowing WA.exe access to the internet in the firewall is a good way of doing it. Just remember you might have to add it again each time a new version is released. On Windows XP, a box pops up each time you run a new version, so all you have to do is click "Allow" and you're set until you next update.

The port forwarding comes into play if you're behind a router that blocks incoming connections on the port WA uses [TCP port 17011], rendering you unable to host games.

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. Just for everyone's information, the screen colour glitches go away if you have the Worms Armageddon folder open before you start the game (found this on other threads elsewhere in these forums) ;)
