Wow, that was short. I finished it on heroic in like 15 hours.

Multiplayer is alright. Still decent, but nothing as much an impact as Halo 1 was.

Just a thought, but isn't Master Chief supposed to be a Spartan?

Adds a new dimension to the thread title.

It's better than anything YOU can come up with, jackass!

Why is it that when the story is "OMFG SO BAD!!!!" that there are novels about it? That there is an ENOURMOUS fan story community, that there are TONS of people making their own Mijonir battle suit, and that Halo has one of the biggest online communities a game has ever seen?

And about the graphics, I suggest you take a look at www.halo3.com and watch the trailers plus intervieuws with bungie, Halo is TOP NOTCH when it comes to graphics!

And I could go on for hours! I think the only reason you hate it because you SUCK at it, but hey, don't feel to bad, maybe life just sin't for you, suicide is a good option my friend.

I don't know anything about Halo3 since I honestly don't really give a rat's ass about it, but...

Having one of the biggest online communities a game has ever seen doesn't mean the story is any good.
For instance, the Sonic series has one of the biggest online communities a game has ever seen. :p
I've heard that the story is actually decent, but you're giving silly "evidence".

And I could go on for hours! I think the only reason you hate it because you SUCK at it, but hey, don't feel to bad, maybe life just sin't for you, suicide is a good option my friend.

Ahahaha.

Anyway, SNAPE KILLS MASTER CHIEF. :(

Yes, but you considered getting a PS3 'because you felt like it', so...

Anyway, SNAPE KILLS MASTER CHIEF. :(

I probably only play it for the story, and that's why I've read all the books.

A thought just occurred....don't they mark Spartans 'MIA' and never 'KIA' for morale? Also didn't Kurt say "Spartans never die?"

Just a thought. :)

Alive?

i thought kurt was some character from half life 2. oh wait, that was barnie (for pete's sake, purple dinosaur nostalgia - ???)

So I was calmly cruising around the forum when I ran into this little beauty.
Why is it that when the story is "OMFG SO BAD!!!!" that there are novels about it? That there is an ENOURMOUS fan story community, that there are TONS of people making their own Mijonir battle suit, and that Halo has one of the biggest online communities a game has ever seen?That... that's gold, right there. I'm sure you just spouted that out with no actual reasoning behind it, but because I'm feeling in a funny mood, I'm gonna tear it apart right here right now.

Point 1: A novel doesn't hold any relevance to the real thing
The act of writing a novel is taking the basic concept behind the original, the backbone, or whatever elements you want, and do with them with you please. Flesh them out, add stuff, describe stuff completely not in the original. In fact, if the writer is good, a novel can completely outdo the original. Novels are not scripts. Novels have no revelance with what they're based on. They're exactly that, novels. If someone wrote the suckiest novel based on X-Com, I'd still love the game. There's hundreds of novels based on movies, TV shows, games, etc, that hold no relevance to the original thing. They're a separate piece. In fact, there's at least 102 games that have spawned off books, and I doubt there's at least a 102 awesome stories for them all.

Point 2: Your rant doesn't actually mean anything
Your sentence can apply to any popular game. Here, let me show it for you:
Why is it that when the story is "OMFG SO BAD!!!!" that there are novels about it? That there is an ENOURMOUS fan story community, that there are TONS of people making their own Y, and that X has one of the biggest online communities a game has ever seen?
In fact, your whole run-down sentences are no more than act and consequence:
Why is it that when the story is "OMFG SO BAD!!!!" that there are novels about it? That there is an ENOURMOUS fan story community > that there are TONS of people making their own Y > and that X has one of the biggest online communities a game has ever seen?Fan communities have no relevance with a game's actual quality. Whether it's good or bad is completely unrelated to it having fans. Fandom is purely based on taste. An attractive game does not have to be good. Also, you just described what a fan community does. Any X game with an enormous fandom will lead to an enormous fan story community, to tons of people making their own Y (X-based element), to an enormous online community. In fact, you can't call it biggest without numbers. Without comparing to the big-time communities: WoW, Battle.Net, WOL, etc.

Point 3: Why is Halo all that popular
Lots of people like Halo. Lots of people don't. Maybe it's good, maybe it isn't. That doesn't matter a bit, let's completely take that out of the equation.

Halo came out in 2001. The Xbox came out in 2001. Xbox didn't have any other FPS before. Thus Halo immediatly gobbled up the entire Xbox/FPS community. This caused an impact, and thus, a fandom.

And Microsoft immediatly took notice of this. A rich source of untapped fandom. And it doesn't take a lot to feed fandom. They're blind followers. They're hardcore fans and they know what they want: Halo.

And thus it was given. Each game follows the exact same forumla because that's exactly what they want. It's Halo. As much as you might like to insult Microsoft, they know their marketing. In the 6 years that Halo has existed for, only 3 games were released (3 years in-between) but Microsoft made sure to do everything they could to hype it. Every single month you were aware that Halo was there. They hyped the releases, hyped their existence, hyped it all they could. Feeding the fandom, nurtering it, growing it.

And of course, media quickly followed along. Media doesn't just magically show up, Microsoft made it happen. They kept nudging them as long as they need them, and media will quickly jump on a bandwagon until they've milked every single rating they can get out of it. From gaming media to mainstream now. And thus Microsoft has gained yet another own loyal fandom. Sure the series is over, but that just opens it up for merchandise. They did enough that the fandom will take whatever they give. Novels, toys, suits, movies, etc.

And that is why Halo is "extremely" popular, as you put it. All crucial marketing.

Please remind me NOT to. *blocks link to wikipedia Halo3 article*

Given that this thread is spoiler-tagged, I don't think it's off-limits to post that if the player waits through the closing credits, a scene reveals that the Master Chief and Cortana have in fact survived, after being separated from the Arbiter as a section of The Dawn was severed when the slipspace portal closed. Drifting helplessly through space, Cortana activates a distress beacon while Master Chief, stating, "Wake me...When you need me", climbs into a cryo chamber to await a rescue which Cortana warns may take "years." If the game is completed on the highest difficulty level (Legendary), the hulk of the Dawn is seen after an unknown period of time drifting towards what resembles the night side of a planet covered with a network of city lights. This implies that, though Bungie has "concluded this story arc", they may have more adventures in store for the Master Chief taking place in the future.
