only an educated guess, but i would say that chances of that happening have improved recently. the fact that the 2d worms games are doing well on consoles might create publisher interest in 2d worms on pc. i don't know, though, if it would be enough, or if worms are now 'stuck' on consoles.

I might be in a minority here, but I'd kind of like to see a 2 1/2-D worms game, a la New Super Mario. 2-D levels are best, but I can see advantages to 3-D as well in terms of animation, zooming, and so on.

Interesting aspect. It should be no problem to create the world in 3D and letting the game mechanics be like it was 2D.
I see parallels between Lemmings and Worms on PC. 3D broke Lemmings the neck on PC (while they still live on classic 2D platforms such as mobiles). I hope that Worms don't share this destiny with Lemmings.

Besides I think that the 3D Worms games are very good - but this is another discussion... ;)

Not just PC please Macs as well, as by 2020 a third of people will own macs instead perhaps more.

** Not just PC and Mac ** but Linux too pleeeeeese?

There's an open source multimedia library called "SDL" that is supported on all three platforms, and it provides input, graphics, sound, CD access, and more...

And then producing the software for all three platforms would not be difficult at all!

Well, we know that Team17 are working on a new worms game for PC, and the last four games they announced/made were all 2D, so there's a good chance that there will be.

do you think someone should create a request thread for what should be included in these upcoming PC (mac as well?) games? I'd like to see the return of that old woman + the mortar.

it used to be great. i don't remember now if it was in w2 or wa, but you could deal crazy damage with it. all you had to do is hit a ledge over the enemy worm, and make sure that clusters rain directly on him. i've dealt close to 100hp of damage that way. later, either in wa or wwp, it was adjusted and became pretty much useless.

well this is from WA days i think, the mortar is (if i think it is what i think it is) was the thing you fire but which was unaffected by wind, can't remeber if you could vary the thrust of it. I just enjoyed it when none else was left and two worms battled it out at either end of the map trying to get the projectories just right and ANNIHILATE your oponenet.

it must be W2 because in W:A that weapon is terrible and almost usless, but it's fun to watch.

It's a great girder destroyer. And I'm sure he's talking about WA, but he's just overrating the power of the weapon.

I believe he is actually talking about Worms 2 because the weapon absolutely owned in Worms 2.

In cavern levels, you could use it for a makeshift Airstrike-style attack.

The Mortar was much better in WormsDC, when it was called the Grenade Launcher and was capable of dealing some actual damage.

A new PC-based 2D Worms game has been hitned at by a couple of Teamsters, and we've got a [Softography+ entry for it over at Dream17 (http://www.dream17.co.uk/softography.php?id=95)], however there's nothing concrete. If we haven't heard abything by this time next year I'll be taking that entry down.

A PC version which is like "Worms Open Warfare 2" (only for PSP and DS) or Worms XBOX360 would be awesome!

The trailer on this site is just great:

This would be the excellent new Worms on the PC!

U know, how much I like the fact that there will be a long-awaited 2D worms game for teh PC, if it's any good - and I'm confident it will be - it's almost certain to drain the WA community. I know i'll be playing the new game

I fail to see how releasing a new, potentially better version of the game presents a problem.

Because some people will still prefer W:A over the new game. Why? Because the new game isn't W:A!
Weren't you here for the 3D games?

You wouldn't think so from the comments coming from this forum, but a lot of people did. It's just that most people here grew up playing WA, so they didn't like how different the 3D games were.

Most people here, in fact, grew up playing Worms in 2D, generally - not just WA. I liked the Single Player missions in Worms 3D but not the Multiplayer, and I liked the Multiplayer aspect of Worms 4: Mayhem but not the Single Player. Put them together and you have a game which is not awful.

I LOVED THEM:D! probably because I'm one of the few people to grow up with them and I just like the sound of goofy worms in a 3rd diminsion.

But this is the wrong topic to discuss this in so let's get back to the new 2D.
