Agreed. I think it fits the Mac gaming market (casual games), very well.

Unfortunately, that's up to the publishers, not Team17. Team17 don't do in-house Mac ports, so they have to wait for someone to approach them to say "Hey, we'd love to release xxx on Mac. Can we?".

If EA Games are publishers for T17's next Worms game, then it is quite possible that it will be released on Macs, but only Intel macs, as EA have a piece of software that allows Windows games to be quickly emulated on Intel Macs.

Unless EA has exclusive rights to the brand, it's still T17's game and IP - and therefor if they wanted to make a Mac version and shop it around to publishers (such as Aspyr), they could.

As for that EA "software" - It's not emulation, it's more 'translation' - read up on TransGaming's "Cider"

Team17 don't usually "shop around" when it comes to Mac publishers, they tend to wait until they're approached (or at least that's how it has worked occasionally in the past). Unfortunately, it looks like Aspyr have never approached T17, only Feral Interactive have for Worms Blast and Worms 3D (Worms 1 was an in-house job with Ocean, but that was donkeys years ago).

If EA say to T17: "Hey guys, we want to publish worms 5 on PC, XBox360, PS3 and Mac, but it'll only be on Intel Macs", T17 are more likely to say "Yes" than "Sorry, we'll look elsewhere for the mac publisher" - much easier for them. Unless of course Aspyr/Feral came along and said "We'll give you double the cut for Worms5 on Mac that EA are giving you, AND we'll make it Universal".

Yeah, I've heard of that - just couldn't think fo the right word to describe it. I personally hope EA don't end up publishing a T17 worms game for mac, because I can't afford to replace my old G4 PowerBook, and Cider will only work on the Intel Machines :(

I'd love to see Worms on more platforms, but don't hold your breath. selling new Mac games is only slightly more profitable than selling new Linux games, which is only slightly more profitable than selling new Amiga games, which is only slightly more profitable than selling your own fecal matter.

There is a small market for Mac games and in the end, it's just not worth the time or money.

You can play games on a Mac, in fact, as well as you can play them on a Windows-based machine, thanks to Boot Camp.

That allows you to play any game available for a Windows-based computer on a Mac.

Which means that you don't need to make a Mac version of the game. :D

Yes, but you do have to own a *cough*legal*cough* copy of windows for it to work - and own an Intel Mac.

Apparently, it is easier to port games from Windows to Intel Mac than to port them from Windows to PowerPC Mac, so hopefully that might encourage a few developers, but then they think "Why should we bother when they can just install Windows on their Mac anyway"

How different is that, really, from "Why should we bother to make games for the Mac when they can just buy a PC anyway" view companies take?

The OSX market is much bigger these days. Nowhere near as big as the Windows market, but it's certainly bigger than the Linux and AmigaOS markets. I think it's reached a point where developers ned to be approachig companies about Mac ports,e specially when the Mac versions are coming out so well-polished. The Mac version of [Worms 3D (http://www.feralinteractive.com/game/worms3d)], for example was superb, probably the best version of the game available (and the boxart is much nicer, to boot). And the Mac version of [The Movies (http://www.feralinteractive.com/game/themovies)] is equisite, featuring integrated support for GarageBand, iMovies and iTunes. If The Movies: Stunts and Effects ever gets released for it, I would seriously consider pickign up a Mac just for that game. That's no exageration.

I really can't understand why Feral didn't port Worms4 - between them and Zonic (the deveopers), they appeared to do an excellent job of it, even improving the graphics along the way.

I keep meaning to download the demo, but never have :(

The frontend graphics, weapon panel, etc. look sublime on the Mac version. I'm sure someone willing to put the time and effort into it could probably update the graphics for the PC versions, if they had access to the masters like Feral did...

Yes, you are correct. Media Access Control addresses can't play games.
