erm, which model are you talking about? http://pages.optima.com.au/default.asp mentiones several series, so please specify the model, since chips or wiring in models may vary.

1) hang on the ceiling
2) Press Up and Left together and then press the spacebar, check if it releases the rope immediately like it should.
3) now press Up and Right and check the same.

Any failure in rope getting released the way it should be (at the first swing you make) will point to a wiring problem, thus a key lock.

Goddamnit, I never had this problem with my Cherry keyboard without Windows keys back in late 90's... I whish I knew the model of that one -.-

Make sure it is a USB keyboard.
That does not guarantee the lack of a key lock, though. The (no-name) PS/2 keyboard I'm using doesn't lock up at all (maybe at 6+ simultaneous key presses, but when do you ever hold that many at once?). The other keyboard I've got is a USB keyboard by Saitek and it locks up at any key combination that involves more than three key presses.

The Stone 5201 works just fine.

Though you'd be hard pushed to find one now judging by a quick google search. It's cream and rectangular, late 80's style, though it's perfect for roping.

yes, its still dependent on the controller and how the keys are wired to the controller, how the controller connects to the PC is irrelevant.

The test I did was very easy to perform.

For example, the Logitech Media keyboard shows no problem if you press Up and Right firmly and then the Spacebar. The rope will shoot immediately. Up and Left pressed firmly and then the Spacebar will result in the worm climbing towards the ceiling (because the rope gets shorter) but its not released. Sometimes the worm will shoot from the rope after several seconds if pressing all three keys together. <- But only if there is no more rope to climb and the worm moves fast back and forth on the ceiling.

Mitsubishi Diamond Touch USB keyboard, model 6511-BU works great but good luck finding one (got mine for $4 from savers).

You mean ALL Starkey keyboards? Can you confirm that? I'd rather put ONLY tested keyboards in the compatibility list, and only boards which lock up when pressing either Up+Left+Spacebar or Up+Right+Spacebar.

Added the Internet Keyboard Pro to the Keyboard compatibility list (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33321), but Muzer please get rid of the 1% which might be Murphy's hiding place (Logitechs Media Keyboard and Media Keyboard Elite also have differences) :) Keyboards on the list must be 100% tested, anyone would hate going to a shop, buying an expensive keyboard and then find out it doesn't work while the list stated it would...ppfff back to that shop again. We all want to be sure no ;)

Holding down 4 keys simultaneously locks it up, except for combinations with the space bar and the cursor keys, where it already locks up with 3 keys (right+up, right+down and left+up). Only left+down works while holding down the space bar.
This is a major annoyance when roping.

So, finding a new USB board - wired this time - wasn't 2 easy. Shops here all sell deluxe cordless bull**** boards with 2 many keys. It took me 8 stores to find a Kensington USb. And guess what? Yup, also a keylock. Left and Up don't go with Spacebar, Right and Up have no problems with it. Same annoyance as with the Logitech, but at least it's a lot cheaper. So it's added to the list... Lol, they don't even know how to spell Value - the name of the board looks so no0bish :D

I can really suggest the Logitech Media Keyboard Elite.
Only cost me €22.- retail here in Austria.
It's a wired USB keyboard, has no keylocks, nice multimedia buttons, programmable F-keys and a few handy extra buttons.

This is my situation:
My new Optiplex doesn't have PS/2 ports and has 8 USB 2.0 ports.

After I checked local stores for a USB keyboard without a Keylock, the only one that the stores have on their websites is the Logitech Media Keyboard Elite, which has been sold out. I called the stores and they told me that it has been discontinued.

I found out that Belkin makes adapters so I could plug a PS/2 keyboard into a USB port. Would I be able to use it without a keylock situation?

depends entirely on how the keyboard is built, the connection to the PC is relativly unrelated to whether it has key locks or not.

They connection type doesn't matter, although, cheaper keyboards tend to have PS/2 connectors rather than USB ones.
On the other hand, more expensive keyboards mostly come with an adapter so you can use the USB keyboard on a PS/2 port.

The price of a keyboard, however, is not necessarily an indicator for the keyboards quality.

If you buy retail, you could ask your friendly, local dealer if you could test the keyboard prior to purchase.
Ask for "n-key rollover", where n is the number of keys you want to press simultaneously.
Logitech's G15 keyboard has full n-key rollover, which means you press all its keys simultaneously and it won't lock up.
The Logitech Media Elite, which I own too, has 7-key rollover for example.

Well, 7-key rollover is way enough for roping in Worms, which this thread is mainly about if you read the first post again.

And you shouldn't jump to conclusions if you don't like ergonomic keyboard layouts.
Obviously there are quite some people that like them, otherwise companies wouldn't produce them.

Make sure you try out key combinations you expect to be using. Like for example: up + right + F1 may work while up + right + F2 doesn't. It all depends upon the circuit design of the keyboard. The keyboard I use begins locking at 4 keys, but I've found certain key combinations that allow me to press 4 - 9 keys at the same time with no problem.

There is only 1 aluminium apple keyboard wired, the others are plastic or bluetooth.

The back of it says A1243, but it really doesnt matter.

Problem simply fixed on my laptop by switching keys around and testing them out. Apparently, up + left + space doesn't work, but up + left + shift does. The shift button is my new space. A noble sacrifice.

i cannot help you, but i'm an absolute cherry fan, best keyboards for playing worms and all other games.

i'm always using the same USB model since W:A came out

Cherry RS 6000 USB
(sometimes it's labeled Cherry RS 6105 but its the same model and hardware)

but it has the UP LEFT SPACE keyboardblock feature/bug but i never got any troubled with this for years (or a decade i guess?) since i got handy with it ( one or two weeks proper/rr)

It has keylock with the normal arrows keys,
but it is good with the numeric blue arrows.

the IBM keyboards used for the Barcelona olympics in 1999 are pretty good for roping

Installed Worms Blast on PII 350 Mhz with a new graphics card (otherwise it wouldn't work).
Keyboard freezes and cannot get out when playing.
I have KVM so i removed the KVM (except Video side), plugged the keyboard and the mouse directly in to the PII.
Still freezes after a few keystrokes of playing.
Tried googling and looking around team 17 Blast microsite. No mention of the problem.

Worms Pinball works - not tested with the new Graphics Card.

The mouse is 3 Fujitsu M-S48 (p/n pk080131)

Looks interesting for people who prefer scissor switches and a very low profile, but those F-keys really seem way too small for use in the faster Worms schemes.

The company that makes the keyboard, digimore, emailed me saying it has 17 key rollover for PS/2 and 6 for usb.
I cant give you direct proof. Or first hand proof.
We finally brought out scissor-type chocolate keyboard with 17 keys rollover if interface is PS/2. For USB, maximum N-key rollover is 6 keys

I used to love roping on a keyboard with small laptop style keys, but i had to remap [space] to the [V] button.
I had a keyboard that worked fine, but it had big buttons, my reactions were better on a low profile keyboard for the little RR maps.
Got fedup in the end, couldnt chat online properly with the buttons remapped, couldnt play at best with the chucky buttons :confused:

An alternative program for testing how many keys you can press at once is this (http://byuu.org/temp/nkey-rollover.exe). Test the key combinations you will be using or are likely to use and it should display the correct total number of keys being pressed down, if it shows less then the keyboard is failing to detect all the keys you are pressing.

With that I've determined that the Acer SK-9620 keyboards have a U+L+Space keylock. (I'm at school at the moment :p)
