Do we need more Garry's Mod threads? :P

Why not just put this in 'The Youtube/Google Video/other videos thread.'?

GrimOswald
12 Jul 2007, 15:09
Because then everyone would complain that the Youtube/Google Video/other videos thread was getting swamped up with Garry's Mod videos. Obviously.:p

>DoomWorm<

You could also just have put this in my thread. called GMOD 10.

Yes, I've seen this video. Some of these contraptions are pure genius, especially the dragon/dinosaur thingy, and the walkers.

Am I the only one here who read it as "INCREDIBLE contraceptions..."?

I tried to build a walking dog robot after whatching that. When I released all the anchors and forced it to move it's legs a bit, it curled up and twiched like a spider that never stopped dying. :p

_Kilburn

I absolutely don't know how to make legs. :p What are you using ? Hydraulics + Ball Socket ?

What, this (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/puzzle/returnoftheimc/index.html?tag=result;title;2) game?

_Kilburn
14 Jul 2007, 22:17
Oh, yes, I used to play this game when I was around 8. This was so great and addictive.

But I prefer GMod because you can do painful and sadistic killer contraptions. :p

This is probably not painful. Duh.

This is not a contraption. :p Plus, it seems that your brain got seriously damaged... but not killed.

Those dinosaurs are awesome, and those walking robots... the other things are boring.

And not to let this thread die, I'm posting my stuff here too.
Meh.. can't find screenshots of new things I made... but I've got this uploaded:

I can do a lot better now though XD With realistic steering and stuff, WIRE FTW!

>DoomWorm<

What kind of wire do you know? I know a quite complicated peice of hovercraft. :D I will post a pic soon. Its not so great designed, but works like a charm.

Is it true that I can only get garrysmod by buying Half-Life? That's what I heard somewhere.

Xinos
21 Jul 2007, 14:43
Half Life 2. And yes, you do, Garry's Mod is a mod, hence the name. And why not get HL2? It's a great game.

_Kilburn
21 Jul 2007, 18:35
It's not really wonderful, but I made a pod that can teleport to the planet you want in gm_solarsystem_v2. Just get into the pod, select planet, click. Very useful. :p

It works only for gm_solarsystem_v2 (using expression gate to store the coordinates), but I may do several expression gates for each existing spacebuild map. :p

WIRE FTW!

I agree. :p May I have your steam account name ?

What kind of wire do you know?Well, Base Defence wire, since I play a lot of fortwars, so that means:
Automated Canons, Turrets, Camera's, Gates.
And also: realistic steering. + cars.

And I'm now trying to get a good working walker with rangers under it's feet, when the feet is down, a weight increases and the other foot goes forward etc.
It's quite complicated, and still very very very glitchy.

Is it true that I can only get garrysmod by buying Half-Life? That's what I heard somewhere. You need HLČ for Gmod 9 and older. For Gmod 10 you need a Source engine based game so: Counterstrike: Source or Day of Defeat Source.

Just add "Liketysplitt" on Xfire and I'll tell you my account there.(Don't want everyone to know my account)

What, really? No way! Same here, I played around 8 as well. I think that grinding Mel up inbetween two large gears was killy enough.

BTW, has anybody apart from myself signed up for the Beta? It's really good, although some gamemodes don't work, but at least you can revert to non-beta any time.

I'm Not Old Enough.

I was 6 years old when Doom came out.. but I don't think I started playing it untill I was about 8 or 9. GTA came out when I was 10 and by then i was playing windows games, so.. :)

I'm sure you're old enough.

You don't even have to play HL2 if you don't want to, just buy it for gmod. Gmod is like lego, but with the fact you can die by the lego falling on you.

I mean, look at worms. Weapons, shootings, bombings, killings, graves, drowning. Sounds more like a First Person Shooter than a strategy.

I could never play gmod for more than a little while. I need something more, like a story. Sandbox games where great fun when I was a kid with infinite gaming endurance..
That or I burned myself out on The Incredible Machine 2 back in my DOS days..

First, this is a FORUM not a chat room.
In Forums we SPELL PROPERLY using PUNCTUATION and GRAMMAR.
In forums you don't have to type on your keyboard fast like you're texting or on an online game.

Do you see say things like "do u lik 2 or r u ppl"!?!?

Second, what you just said is what we call spam, it is a completely pointless messages that have nothing to do with the thread you are speaking in.
This is a thread about Garrys Mod not a thread where you say hello.
Spamming can get you watched or even banned so be carefull or just don't do it.

PS: do not take this post as a threat or as flaming. I am only advising you for future reference.

ON TOPIC: You can find some quite cool and funny Gmod stuff by simply putting "gmod rube goldburg" (spelt right?) into youtube search or google video.
I might submit a few cool ones later.

robowurmz

Rube Goldberg was a heck of a funny guy. He made machines like the incredible machine's ones to do simple tasks, like changes the batteries in a torch. The Incredible Machine was actually based on one of his machines which he called The Incredible Machine. It used all the parts (well, most of) used in the Original "The Incredible Machine".

It's more fun online, where there's other people to compare contraptions with.

When I was a kid with infinite endurance, I used to waste my time on Lemmings and Prince of Persia, and trying to figure out how to use QBASIC. I didn't get very far though, on any of them.

Sorry for the UBER THREAD RESURRECTION, but I've just got Garry's Mod working at school on my laptop, so I can play it again (there was a damn proxy that kept blocking Steam). Not online, unfortunately, but I can still play singleplayer and LAN games. And now that I've been getting way better with Wiremod, I've decided to build an uber accurate auto turret, and I'm quite proud of the result : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reXE5bQcwoE

And here is a preview of version 2, which has angle correction = more accuracy  : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-AjcXuPkxo&watch_response

As you can see, it can hit tiny objects, even at a very long distance. There is no sound, so you can't know it, but it shoots only one bullet at once. One shot, one kill. :p

So I need comments, and if there are some of you here who have good Wiremod skills, maybe advices to make it even faster and accurate.

Also, I've started building an automated ballistic artillery cannon. It's not very accurate, but still impressive : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Yz_htijQvE

I don't want this thread to die, if some of you are still playing Garry's Mod, I would like to see your contraptions too. I need ideas to improve my building skills. :p

Just wana ask.. whats Wiremod? some extension of GMod?

does The Orange Box come with GMod 10? (I hope TOB comes with it AND counter strike source together.)

_Kilburn
19 Nov 2007, 17:06
Wiremod is an addon for GMod, yes. It is used to make numbers navigate through different components (something like logic circuits), and you can do pretty awesome stuff with it.

Nope. The Orange Box has neither GMod, nor Counter Strike Source. But if you buy it, you can use the best of the Source Engine in GMod, and spawn Portal, TF2 and HLČ Episode Two props and NPCs.

It's also considered proper forum usage not to use full capital words to emphasize.

And you're telling the guy to use proper grammar?

Yazuka, try to keep with the current topic. Those were said and dealt with in August.

_Kilburn, I can see you up as the next "Lua God".

_Kilburn
20 Nov 2007, 00:55
Lua ? Why Lua ? :p I've just used Wiremod entities, not Lua.

Anyway, while you are talking about Lua, I'm currently working on a few tools, such as the Ignore Stool, which can made props completely ignored by everything, including the toolgun, the physgun, any SWEP (they all fire through these props, just like they don't exist). Very useful for performing quick modifications in complex contraptions. :p
You can get the latest version here:
http://www.garrysmod.org/img/?t=dll&id=25691 (http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=25691)

Also, another addon for Wiremod, the Wire RFID Systems. It contains entities that can implant a RFID chip into anything, including players and NPCs, and read it using different ways. You can use a beam to read it (a kind of ranger), a proximity reader that starts reading when an entity with a RFID is in range, or a special entity that can be linked to a button and outputs the content of the RFID from anyone that presses the button. Also, there is an experimental target filter that can be linked to a target finder, which makes it skip entities that have a RFID with certain values.

Download:
http://www.garrysmod.org/img/?t=dll&id=24685 (http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=24685)

I'm working on a password system, so you can make RFIDs that can't be read or edited by implanters or readers that don't have a matching password.

Oh, and a simple question. Since people can now extract the worm model from Worms 4 Mayhem, would releasing a ragdoll using this model be legal ? Not because it has already be done, but am I allowed to request such a ragdoll from a modeler, and give him the model if he agrees ?
Faceposable and fingerposable worms would be so cool for Worms comics in Garry's Mod. :p
