View Full Version : Dream17 server woes - PLEASE DO NOT USE DREAM17 AS A MIRROR FOR THE TIME BEING

Dream17 is currently in the midst of a server crisis. We've had to take down all of our downloads, and the future of the site looks grim. However I am not about to let the website die. I've spent too much time, effort and money keeping it afloat to let it die now. It's important.

I'm not going to ask for donations - you have that option of course, but don't feel obliged to as I'm not holding the website ransom or anything - but I will ask that when you visit Team17 websites to download patches, demos etc., please do not use the Dream17 mirror option for the time being. I have emailed Team17's webmaster to remove the links for the time being until such a time as we can reliably act as a mirror once again.

We've taken the downloads down, but should hopefully have the downloads back up again tomorrow. We're looking at ways of restricting the number of downloads a day, and how many people can download files at once. Ultimately I want to move to a server with higher bandwidth but that costs a Hell of a lot of money. That said, I will gladly pay what I can to prevent the website from blinking out of existence entirely.

Thanks again for your continued support. :)

We seem to be alright for the moment. The bandwidth use has been controlled - it looks like we had a lot of Warez websites leaching from us. Or something. We're pretty safe for the time being.

Hotlink protection is your friend, Ben.

We do have hotlink protection. :p We just used to be official Team17 mirrors, which was clearly insanity.

yea, people would use download acceleraters etc. that use team17's url as a refferal address when using the dream17 mirror...
