Put the maps in your SavedLevels folder and select them by using the drop-down menu in the map editor.

Indeed.
Big maps (as any PNG maps actually) are supported, not imported.

yes, but if you dont know how to convert your big maps... it would just be heaps easier if big maps were able to be imported, most likely this will be added in a future version.

In which filetype do i have to save the maps in the savedlevels folder?
shall i save it in png or something else? (maybe bmp)

When i put the map in png in my saved levels folder, it says error opening map file...

...what do i have to do when i have a bmp-picture 300x30000 and i want to play it in wa??

png.

Did you save it in paint? The image has to be palleted and 112? colours.

Download Irfanview and then you can set the colour depth to whatever number you want, and save as a PNG.

I'd suggest you read the readme file again.
The height and width of an oversized maps must be divisible by 8 without a remainder.
(X mod 8 = 0 and Y mod 8 = 0)
300 / 8 = 37,5 though. Change it to 304.

The simplest way to get a map with a proper colour palette is to put the BMP file into the import folder, import it and then re-save it in the map editor.
Or use an existing, working map, erase everything and build your own on top of it. (In a proper image editing program though.)

I thought importing wouldn't work with abnormal map sizes

All the colour map specifications are here, in the Worms Knowledge Base: http://worms2d.info/Colour_map.

Right, importing does only work at maps with "normal" size...

For the next update: it would be much easier if you could import any size of maps...

Just out of personal curiosity, I've always wondered why people are actually using the Import function. I have never used it before and never felt the need to, in fact it seems completely dispensable to me. What advantages does it have over the map editor and its capability to load .png and .bit files?

Answer, before one of the updates, WA was never able to use pngs in savedlevels. All colour maps used to have to be imported. Now, it's just kept there ofr consistency, so people don't go "OMG WERE DID DART BOOTON GO?!?!?!?!"

If you mean why are these people using it, because it's simpler than getting a palletted PNG witht he right dimensions, if you only have paint.

Ok... I downloaded Ifranview and I changed the colour depth to 112. The map is 700x10.000. Now Worms sais: "Invalid Map Dimensions. Must be divisible by 8x8."
What means it, what do i have to change on the map size?

EDIT: It goes... thank you^^

EDIT... NEW PROBLEM:
The black isnt transparent anymore... my worm can stand on it...???
What do i have to change at this window: http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/9597/transparenzcp8.jpg ...?

That's a "bug" in IrfanView, if you will. Its reduction algorithm changes RGB(0,0,0) (true black) to RGB(3,3,3). One way to solve the problem is to open that map in Paint and to re-fill everything that's supposed to be black with the black colour you can find in Paint's standard palette.

Now it sais again "Error opening map file"

Paint might have fiddled with the palette again, try repeating the process.

If you like, a free Paint Shop Pro version is available here.

Although that's version 4, I use version 7 and I think the latest is essentiall version 11. Alternatively try the gimp.

I agree that it is currently obsolete, but I still keep my maps in progress in the user\import\ directory, because that's where I have all my old ones.
