View Full Version : 4.0 comes out on July 6th!

It's the moment you've all been waiting with baited breath for. On July 6th, we will finally be able to enjoy the latest entry... it's been a long wait, but it's finally here.

That's right - Die Hard 4.0 comes out in British cinemas.

I am not a huge fan of the series myself. The first film was quite good, but the second one seemed really cack. As for the third one... well, I often get that one confused in my mind with Speed, so it can't be that good. Or that original, for that matter.

What is the deal with the revival of old film franchies anyway? We've had Rocky and Die Hard. There's a new Rambo movie in the works. It does seem to be largely action movies and "bloke" films, but I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for a third Ghostbusters movie.

Anyway - Die Hard. Discuss!

There's been rumoured a new Ghostbusters game, at least.

As for Die Hard; I'm seven years too young to watch it, and for once, I'm glad of it. :p
Dunno why, people just don't recommend it to me that often, and the only way I'd be able to watch it now is if my Dad got it for some reason.

The first one is great. It defined Bruce Willis' stereotypical role as the drunk, antisocial cop that always gets into a hell of a mess.
Besides, Alan Rickman is THE best actor to play villains and his dying scene is awesome (same as in the 1991 Robin Hood movie).

The second is completely lousy. The typical bad sequel to cash in quick money.

The third, on the other hand, is quite good as it's hectic and funny due to the dialogues with Samuel L. Jackson.
The only exception here is the completely useless helicopter sequence at the Canadian border in the end.

I have a feeling that this kind of "bloke" movies have a revival now, because the Hollywood film industry always had a knack for distracting from current political problems with such patriotic flicks.

It's actually surprising that Rambo isn't going back to Afghanistan, this time to catch terrorists hidden in caves. I guess the script writers and producers have become a bit more subtle there.
Although, Burma isn't far away from Vietnam. :)

From what I hear, the new Rambo movie is basically Commando.

If you can write text on the internet without leet-speeching your'e old enough to watch movies.

Why they revive old movies and concepts is no secret. They are cowards. They know what has been popular before and therefor they know tickets will sell, no matter how bad the movie actually is.

Here's a list off the top of my head of such movies:

Starsky and Hutch, Lost in Space, Thunderbirds, All Disney sequals, Batman Begins, The next Batman movie, Spiderman 1,2 & 3, The Hulk, Fantastic Four 1&2, Superman: The Beginning, Aeon Flux, Dare Devil, Hell Boy, Ghost Rider, Catwoman, probably some newish Indiana Jones movie, James Bond (!).

Blegh, this is depressing. Video Game movies generally suck too, but it's not really revival of ancient stuff, except Tomb Raider, and maybe Blood Rayne, but that's Uwe Bolls fault.

The first one was great. Bruce Willis was good, Alan Rickman was amazing. The whole film was good.

The second one was weak. Not such a good story and flawed. Besides, it is rare sequels are as good as originals.

The third however, I have only seen once or twice and not all the way through (I've effectively seen it all, but only in two halves). It was better than the second by a long shot, but still not on the same level as the first.

I can't see much becoming of the fourth. I predict a strange storyline and lots of bizarre stunts and special effects.

The third film gets a bonus mark for having a water jugs puzzle.

I'd just like to ask;

Did anyone else, upon seeing the title, think this thread had something to do with the W:A Patch? Unless of course, you were all clever and realised who made the thread and where it was posted.

Mostly because I was not expecting a fourth Die Hard film at all.

I did. I assumed it would be a joke until I actually read the thread and realised it has nothing to do with Worms.

I doubt Spadge would like that - I could move the thread in, but can't move stuff out of Announcements.

It's almost as if it was intentional!

I did actually consider posting this in the WA forum, but I thought that would be pushing my luck :)

The Die Hard Series in order of coolness (best first)
1,4,3,2.

Obviously those are just my thoughts.

(On a side note, Die Hard 4.0 > The Simpsons Movie, but the Simpsons movie is still pretty good).

Having seen both, I can say the following:

"Live Free or Die Hard" is not, in any sense of the word, a good movie. It's not awful, but certainly not good.
"The SImpsons Movie" has a plot typical of recent episodes of the show, but humour that is on a par with the Golden Age of the mid-90s. It's the second-funniest film I've seen this year behind "Hot Fuzz", which is fantastic.

Wait, whatever happened to 'less is more'?Only for numbers less than one, should you be planning to square them.

EDIT: Or values for x in functions of the form f(x) = g(b - ax), where g is monotonic.
