OK, this doesn't happen very often, so I'm not sure if it's the same error every time but it seems like it's the same. There doesn't seem to be a pattern when it happens, or with which program it happens on.


OK, when I exit a program, it will close, but then the attached errors will come up. These particular errors were after closing an explorer window, and at that point it actually closed the whole of explorer.exe (ie the taskbar, all explorer windows etc), but it can happen in any program after closure.


Can anyone describe the reason(s) for these errors and how to stop them?


PS: This is on XP. I know the second one looks like it's vista, but I'm using one of those vista styles. This happened even before I installed this, so it's entirely unrelated that it looks like vista.

Try googling the error codes and I'm sure you'll get some good awnsers.

They look like Windows 98 Blue Screen of Death error messages except that your computer doesn't crash.

have you tried running memtest86 to test your computer memory?

my first lot of memory was incompatible and this is what i encountered as well, randomly sometime a weird error pops up, ever since i replaced the memory with compatible memory the problems vanished.

Good point; it might have happened after I took my RAM out (and put it back in, obviously) to check what type it was... it might've got dust in the connections

The second one looks like a registry problem. Try using this registry cleaner (http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm). If it dosnt help that problem, it will at least tidy up your regsitry. You have nothing to lose.

It happens with quite a few errors, it just for some strange reason displays them in the same style as it does win9x programs. You can try shutting down with others logged on (that is, if you have the welcome screen enabled) to get the same style message.

I know that if you end svchost.exe from the task manager, all the visual styles disappear:D

EDIT: In fact, I actually had many instances of it running for some reason. I killed them all and all it had no immediate effect, except that for some reason the language bar went all screwey (WTF?) but about one minute later all the XP and vista styles disabled and then reenabled themselves.

Its full name is something like service host.exe and it does exactly what it says on the tin; its a host for services. you have serveral of them running because several things need to be hosted. If you kill the host, you kill the service.

The only time i decide to kill svchost.exe was when it was using maximum CPU, and that only happened when microsoft update went all screwy at startup. I've since converted back to windows update, which is alot more stable.

The "0x0eedfade" or whatever it was named is probably the fade thing when closing windows in vista. It quickly fades out. That explains when theres and error when you close it :)

No, he's right, the first is not Vista style. It may very well be in Vista, but the style is from Windows 95.

You could always try and go talk to the people who you bought the computer from. Sometimes computer stores have some pretty good tips.

I always find it hilarious when a program pulls a "will be shut down" when I'm closing it.

As for the errors, it may be drastic but a good old fashioned backup and format alway does the trick!
