View Full Version : My Solution to Vista

I've been trying to get W:A to work under vista for the past few days, and I finally got the game running perfectly for my system.
First my computers Specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit version
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+
2.0 GB of Ram
nVidia Geforce 6600

The first thing that happened after I did a fresh install and patch was that the frontend was extremely slow, and the gameplay framerate was so low that it was unplayable.
I read around on the forums for a little bit and found out that the nVidia drivers were probably the cause for this. I visited www.OmegaDrivers.net and got the Nvidia Omega Drivers 1.6693 (Forceware 66.93) for XP. After installing those I tried W:A again and this time the gameplay had no lag but the colors were extremely messed up.

I tried a bunch of different things but what ended up working was going into the worms directory, going to the properties of wa.exe, and changing the compatibility to Windows XP (Service Pack 2). I loaded up the game and everything was working flawlessly.

The only thing I've noticed is that when I try to use a shortcut, it glitches with the color again.

Hope this helps someone else!

don't use older drivers o_O just execute the appropriate *.reg file found in the worms armaggedon folder after you have updated to the latest beta.

What're you basing this "don't use older drivers" information off of? It's not like it hurts the system, and it fixed my problem. Plus, the registry fixes only take care of the front end, none of the in game lag, or color problems.

well, if you want to run any games made in 2005 and newer you will most likely need much newer drivers :)

but if you dont at the moment want to play recent games then ok !

That makes no sense whatsoever, older drivers will do great, sometimes even better than newer versions of drivers. Newer ones are usually way more glitchy. I use old drivers all the time, and it does fix a lot of hardware issues. I can also run the newest games without any problems, even if my drivers are pre-2005. This could change if you have a DX10 GFX card or really new hardware, but on older hardware it doesn't make any difference.

only windows 9x exhibits weird problems with using drivers other then the one included with your video card.

He's right actually franpa. The initial drivers for Vista simply sucked, and you have to use the Beta drivers to makes some of the issues disappear (as described here (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_101.41.html) by the company itself).
I've been wondering for a while now, if anyone with an ATI/AMD card managed to run the game properly. Personally I think it'll work fine, because ATI card owners can run WWP properly, so the same story might be happening over Vista (and I base my opinion on absolutely nothing).

Yeah, I don't have any of the problems with my Vista install at all. I have a X1600 and nothing (yet) has gone wrong. In fact, Vista seems to have eradicated all traces of any color-glitching for me. Hooray!

ATI/ADM seems to be very on top of the Vista situation. I'm using the out-of-the-box drivers. No crapism, even in Battlefield 2142 on the highest graphics settings. And its a damn laptop!
