Presumably your old computer had PowerPoint, and therefore some kind of CD to put it on with.

You could nab Open Office. It's slideshow application is similar to PowerPoint (and compatible with it).

If that doesn't appeal to you, seen if you can win yourself an OEM copy on Ebay (this, for example (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Microsoft-Office-Small-Business-Edition-2003-OEM_W0QQitemZ190095121965QQcategoryZ80007QQssPageN ameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)).

You could nab Open Office. It's slideshow application is similar to PowerPoint (and compatible with it). It's compatible but it doesn't even have half of the (annoying) features that most PowerPoints use, rendering them useless.

I dislike Open Office. And I also dislike powerpoint in any form it may presents itself ;)

For what it's worth, I'll be using Powerpoint today. I'm giving a workshop.

I've never liked Works myself. I prefer just to use the whole Office pacakage, although mine lacks Publisher - rather annoying when you can't port your CV off it at home :p.
