No, that's a tenor.

And frankly the idea of someone thinking up "recorder" as the first word to be associated even with tenor frankly astounds me. Vocalist, yes. Saxaphone, yes. Recorder? RECORDER??? Recorders are torture instruments, not musical instruments.

Tenner is British slang for a ten pound note.

There are worse. The recorders aren't that bad.

The console case is bad. The controllers have always been poor. The games are usually only average (although they always are the most numerous with a few gems in there). Plus, the PS3 is very expensive and is less energy efficient than an old toaster.

No, I base it on the co-ordination between the playsticks/controllers and the console. Reaction time and actual similarity between where the player moves and where the graphic moves etc.

No, I base it on the co-ordination between the playsticks/controllers and the console. Reaction time and actual similarity between where the player moves and where the graphic moves etc.

There isn't any real noticible difference between the consoles on that front. The Playstation controllers never felt as good as the Gamecube or XBox controllers did. The button layout on the Playstation was a little clumsy and didn't improve going into the next two generations.

Which is exactly the same on the Wii as it is on the PS3. There's no delay... you wave the Wiimote around and the reticle, or curser, or whatever follows you on the screen. It offers far superior accuracy in games for what I hope are obvious reasons.

Personally, I base it on how much fun I believe the system will give me. Nintendo have a good past of producing good consoles that are fun to play at affordable prices (affordable being a key word). Sony have a habbit of remaking their consoles, adding a bit of graphical power and calling it next generation. Now, no doubt the PS3 is fun, but at that price (and the price of the games), is it worth it? Not in my opinion - the Wii is more fun, at a much more reasonable price.

I think Wii have put too much time into the "wonderment" of the remote and the way you can make the graphic do what you do...blah blah and taken that time off all the other elements a good console should have...

Alien King
22 Mar 2007, 20:34
all the other elements a good console should have...

Which are what exactly? All of the consoles provide decent graphics and good gameplay. What more does the PS3 offer? It has some more power and slightly better graphics. That doesn't automatically improve gameplay. It may help, but it doesn't vastly improve it.

What elements should a video game console have? It needs to be able to provide good enterteinment, which come from good gameplay. Gameplay is more dependant on the games than the console. Nintendo have a very good history of providing top quality games, even with what would appear to be the "inferior" console.

the Wii has fun games, but the Ps3 probably just needs a bit of time to take off. as I said before, the launch wasn't very good. more fun games should come out for it in due time. you saw Littlebigplanet and Ratchet and clank 4/5? ...

Sure, the PS3 may not sell as many units as the Wii (at launch anyway)... but that doesn't mean it'll FAIL. It's like people saying the PSP is a failure, when it's obviously been successful. It's the first console in GOD knows how long to actually survive in the handheld market while Nintendo's hanging around.

Anyway, about the PS3... I definately want one (once the price drops a bit :p). The game line up for the future is looking pretty tasty now.

I don't have any of the consoles, but, like most here, I would get a Wii, but really, just because I prefer one console to the other doesn't mean I want the PS3 to fail. There are some good games out now, and there are more to be released (LittleBigPlanet, for example), but I can see why people don't want it because of its price.

Probably true; the PS3 has some powerful stuff under the bonnet (as you'd bloody well hope it to at £425 a shot), so it'll be a good while before developers figure out how best to use it.

But in that case, why would you buy the thing? It implies that sure, it's rubbish, but eventually it'll become good. But by then it'll be cheaper (if there's any justice) so why buy one now?

Let's see... Xbox seems like a win for its graphics, and IIRC it's a bit better than the ps3. It's older than the ps3, so it has more games, and even better ones. But it doesn't have Playstation in the name, so it'll be less known. Price: ok

The Wii. It has an innovate way of playing, and can still offer old school games. Wait for Smash Bros if you don't believe. Games, not many, some fun ones, but some good ones on the go. The graphics are poor compared with the others, but it's made for the movement sensor, and that all. Price: great

The PS3. It has a semi movement detector, not fully detecting, like the Wii, and has few games for now, with great ones on the future. It's like a mid term, in some way. Price: WTF D:

So, as I see it, I'd prefer the Wii, for having a better price-fun relation, and Smash Bros and other games on the future (I'm getting Mario Galaxy too, probably :p)

The problem is is that Sony are trying the same tactic as Microsoft did with the Xbox - introduction late into a maturing market to take advantage of customer boredom (yes, I did a case study on this :p). Unfortunately, when it costs £500 that doesn't work as well.

Most of the middle ground gamers who wanted next-gen have got 360's, the lower end who just want an occasional console that's fun to play and doesn't break the bank have got Wii's, that just leaves the high end who probably have gotten really, really bored waiting for it. (Yes, I realise I'm generalising. But it's a pretty fair way of comparing markets) Sony will have some success with it, for all that's been said it's still a good console and will develop a community. However what we're likely to see is a reversal of the last few years, with microsoft holding the main ground with an accessable product at a good price, sony having a strong but smaller penetration with a premium product, and nintendo staying the same, probably with a greater market share.

Anyone played it yet? It feels different and needs a little getting used to, but was pretty impressive and the motion sensing felt more solid than the Wiiuh.....no it doesn't? the PS3's motion capture feels rather tacked on. not to say it isn't good (well, by MY experience it's absolutely horrible, but I'm assuming that was just a bad console, as it was also one that died after 40 minutes), but it's hardly better than the wii's. in the way it works, they're on equal grounds from my understanding. the only difference is the way they're implemented and the wii wins on that one just cause it was made for motion sensing while the PS3 just adds it as another feature.

as for the PS3 failing, you guys are idiots :p the PS3 was rocky to begin with and still isn't getting the sales, but with the announcement of LittleBigPlanet and Home, just about everyone that I see online on message boards and such like that is casting off the "Screw you, sony" view point and adapting the "well, MAYBE I'll get one eventually" attitude. so it might just get a sales boost later on when there's something interesting about it.

Unfortunately, when it costs £500 that doesn't work as well. The Xbox situation was different. The Xbox was technically superior to the PS2, in terms of the console capabilities and specifications as it was released a lot later. As it was released later there was a lack of games when compared to the PS2. The PS3 isn't technically all that much better than the Xbox 360, it's been released not much later and lacks games compared to the PS2. The Xbox had an edge over the PS2 in one sense but that's not really true for the PS3 over the Xbox 360. I can only see Sony losing out through this.

I really haven't seen any new games on Xbox or Wii that really catch my attention, the only reason I want a Wii is for the older console games, including Gamecube games as I never even touched one. I don't recall mentioning Nintendo, or criticising Sony in any way (in this thread).

All I meant was that Sony's horde of fans and their sister horde of the easily hyped were always going to buy a lot of PS3s on launch day and nobody else was.

So good launch days sales don't mean anything, and nor would poor launch day sales have. Long term sales are the key. the Wii and the 360 seem to have done pretty well long-term (or mid-term, anyway) which could be a good or bad sign for the PS3 depending on how you look at it.

Nintendo do have a pretty good horde, though, it's true. I'd wager they're more loyal by now, too. But I'd wager they're not enough to run a business on without a decent share of the mass market to go with them.
