Now... first off, i've read the FAQ's, and seen some of the other posts on this forum... its late, maybe i'm overlooking something but here it goes:

My friend and i have been quite thrown back down memory lane by the release of Worms on Xbox Live. So we decided to try my old copy of WA on my computers in hopes of having more fun outta the increased excitability of the PC version. I have run into problems when running on Both my Desktop, and my Laptop. here they are... hope someone can help.

I'm using an OLD version from a good 8 years ago. to my knowledge, its an original CD version

Desktop
-Install goes clean and fresh.
-WA_update-3.6.26.5_Beta_Installer.exe goes on fine.
-the game starts.
-some menus are a tiny bit twitchy now and then. no biggie?
-go to open a match, i get no load screen, it goes blank and the computer freezes. My monitors use DVI connections, and the main one of the 2 shows the little green "DVI" in the top right corner like it was disconnected from its DVI cable.
-computer requires restart.

Now, i'm using XP Home, with SP2, and directX. 9.0c. I DO have an nVidea eVGA 8800GTX, so i think it COULD be that.... but i want other opinions before i settle on waiting for the support for it.

Toshiba A20 Laptop
-Install goes clean and fresh.
-WA_update-3.6.26.5_Beta_Installer.exe goes on fine.
-added the "/nointro" line of code.
-game launches all choppy and flaky flashing between game menu and shows some black embossed rectangle in the upper 3rd of the screen (which when flashes to the game menu looks like its the WA logo on the main menu) i have to crash it by "ctrl+alt+Del" and end the task. then it gives me a windows error that its not responding and asks for the error reporting.

The laptop is running WinXP SP2, DirectX 9.0c, and has a "Trident Cyber ALADDiN-P4 v6.4627.22ICD_SE_NP" listed as the device name in the dxdiag under the "Display" tab.

We'd really like to get this going.... even if it means we can only get one to work, then wait till theres more support for the 8800. I mean, our buddy Just installed my old disc on his Brand new Acer Ferrari laptop the other night and played the game with NO problems at all. with NO updates, and only a fresh original install. What gives?!

:(

Execute the SlowFrontendWorkaround_On.reg in your WA install directory after applying the beta update to fix the flickery menus (in one of the later betas this has been disable by default).

AFAIK, some (many?) people have reported problems with the 8800 because Nvidia added no DirectDraw support to its drivers, or something like that.

In case of the Laptop I think that this device is an onboard graphics adapter with shared memory, which has often cause incompatibilities in the past.

Check www.nanacide.com/wahelp and read the tutorials and/or FAQs.
Perhaps you haven't properly patched/updated your version.

Also, you could try and use CyberShadow's automatic patcher/updater (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=31140).

ok, ran the "SlowFrontendWorkaround_On.reg" on the laptop. didn't work to fix the problem.

read the tutorials and FAQ's, still hasn't helped. i'll try CyberShadow's automatic patcher/updater, but im doubting it will work.

As far as the desktop, i'm gonna call that problem a write-off till nVideo releases new drivers. thats sad... :(

I don't know if it helps, but did you patch it to 3.0.5.0 before applying the latest beta update?

That may be your problem.

That's not necessary, AFAIK.
Either 1.0 > 3.0 > 3.6.26.5 or 3.0 > 3.6.26.5.

wait. link me to the downloads your suggesting and i'll make a fresh install and do it all in that order.

Well, CS's patcher/updater automatically does both the patching (if necessary) and the updating.

But here you go:
v3.0 patch (http://wa.team17.com/main.html?page=supp&area=patc&file=11)
v3.6.26.5 beta update (http://wa.team17.com/main.html?page=supp&area=upda&file=15)

(Before patching/updating you should check which version you have. Right-click your wa.exe and check the version info. See www.nanacide.com/wahelp tutorials)

hmmm, weird... if i fight thru the flickering menus to the instant match, i can load and play a match, but its really choppy (not black screen, just choppy) and slow. then when i quit the match its all glitchy looking.

...weird.

go into your video card settings and force refresh rate.
I doubt it is his refresh rate, because he would have a flickering monitorall the time and couldn't actually tell the difference.

I guess he is talking about the flickering menu buttons, where the outlines flicker in white sequencially and periodically.

It could be, because it might be the game's refresh rate fo some reason isn't being sent out properly, and gets reset to a low level. I doubt it, but it is a possibilty.

The game always runs at 50 frames per second.

The maximum is 50 frames per second, slow computers (or ones with a lot of stuff going on) won't keep up with that and skip some frames in the process.

well, the laptops not that slow, its a P4 with 512. i wish toshiba got on the bandwagon with 1st tear GPU manufacs sooner, and i wouldn't have this problem.

im this close to going out and buying two junker PC's with win98 to get this going. :(

Unless you have one of the random patches DC made years back where he doubled the FPS. Those were interesting.
