What do you use favourites/bookmarks for? I use them for setting sites that I don't think I'd find again, rather than sites I always visit. How about you?

Both. I have stuff like this forum favourited, even my own site, purely for easy access. I also bookmark stuff that I might not find agian.

Also both:
1. The bookmarks of anything that's fun / neat / interesting / etc. that I wanna keep stored for whenever I'm bored.
2. The bookarmks I visit regularly and thus can put them somewhere more quickly accessible than the address bar.

I'm lazy. Just type in the first bit of the web address and let Safari complete the rest.

Me too. I bookmark things sometimes, but I never bother to click them afterwards. If I forget where stuff is I don't care; Google won't.

I use bookmarks for just about any site that I think I'll want to visit again. It works for me.

I have my regular sites on the Bookmark Toolbar.

I use bookmarks for something I'd like to go to again.

For pages I'm likely to visit a lot, I bookmark or put into favourites (although Opera counts them both as the same thing).

I currently have on my toolbar, those sites I visit most (T17 Forums, dA, Wikipedia, Google...)

Nice, you use opera :)

I've got quite a long list of bookmarks, full of sites I'll rarely if ever go to, but that vast majority of what I use bookmarks for is just as a quick way to get to the sites I visit every day, like T17 or Wiki, etc. I put those ones on my personal bar so they're even easier.

I use my bookmarks for easy access to some sites!

Not this forum though. I have that as my home page! :D

I've got sites I visit all the time in the bookmarks below the address bar, and sites that I don't visit that regularly or might not find again favourited. And I use the favourites to keep stuff together, like all the links for the MMO I play.

Mostly the former, though I do have a couple of the regulars fav'd. In general, I leave the forums I visit all the time (such as this, and a few others) open anyway, and my computer on (or at least hibernated), so it can be months between having to open the damn things up again. :p

Amazing, despite MSN Explorer being fundamentally IE, I don't experience all the crashes others do.

I have about 53 bookmarks, and believe it or not, I use almost every one of them. :p

I've put the forum as my home page, so I don't have that one on my list.

Top clicks:
Play.com, Rotten Tomatoes, Apple, Wikipedia, Google, ebay, You Tube and RaymanZone.

Klik & Play was awesome.

Like most people I use bookmarks for saving sites I am unlikely to find/look for again but know I will need/enjoy later. I also use them for easy access.

So, in summary: I use bookmarks as they were intended.

Are you trying to find some purpose for them other than the obvious? Try these:

Use bookmarks as email contacts. Save a bookmark as "mailto:someone@somewhere.com" then just click it to send that person an email.

Use bookmarks for basic browser functions. For example, enter "javascript:history.back()" as a bookmark and you can use it instead of your back button.

Use bookmarks to launch local files or applications by setting the address as "file:\\C:\Team17\Worms Armageddon\WA.exe" or something (I have no idea if this works but it should do).

etc.

I try to keep my most frequently used links on my home page stored locally, so that they are just one click away, but I'm slow at updating it. My secondary method is typing in the address bar and using the auto-complete. Bookmarks come third, because they take two clicks, and I limit the amount of things I store in there. I use bookmarks for links I want to save for a long time and not use very often. Sometimes I search for something, forgetting that I bookmarked it a year or two ago. :D

Maybe you could set your favourite to a shortcut, and have your browser auto-run .lnk files. Kinda dangerous though.

I only have 34 bookmarks. So no, I do not count as a bookmark user.

I save bookmarks whenever I come across a page that seems important enough to look at again. So I got art references, bunch of forums, CGI community links, World of Warcraft stuff etc :P

Oh, and a bunch of trivial bookmarks so I can place shortcuts on Operas personal bar. <3

Edit: What does "Yes - I use them for both roughly equally" mean? Favorites and Bookmarks are the same thing... is this option trying to be ironic?

For both. For both purposes listed in the poll options.

Doh... I never know when to pay atention. And don't tell me "all the time", because I don't have the energy for that ;)

For good sites that I don't visit a lot but are useful.
For sites that I know the address of but just want a quick link to it.

I use Firefox' RSS shortcuts for the sites I often visit, and I also have some sort of notifier (RSS ticker addon) to remind me that I have to visit them.

Well, doing so creates a bookmark too. So if I do it your way I have to go into the bookmark manager and then move them into an appropiate category. Which takes more time than just adding them into the right folder from the start.
