View Full Version : Dragon Punch bug
Hey guys,
I've just been dragon punched for 90 health. I couldn't see any special circumstances but just another thing for the list.

have any mines been triggered on the same turn before you got dragon punched? there is a known issue with mine damage (and any damage caused by mine detonation, e.g. barrel explosion triggered by mine) not being accoutned for until the end of the turn. if somebody used that to deal damage to you worm, and then dragon-punched you, you'd see extra damage deducted as if dragon punch caused it.
I dont know of any "issue" with mine damage quakerworm. Mine damage works exactly as designed as far as I know.
Was it a long fall, also? I've certainly never seen anything but 30 being taken off for a basic punch.

then it's an issue with design. :p the point is, the way mine damage works, it could have caused what appears to be a 90hp dragon punch.
Dp takes 30, the worm suffered 90 on that turn, that doesn't mean it was a 90pt hit.

that's why i said "appears to be".
For anyone with WA installed [and updated], here's a replay of Firepunch doing 60 damage. Perhaps your bug was simply the weapon put to good use.
Allegedly Firepunch damage can go up to 360 damage with low gravity utilising the approach below.

Of course, there could have been a bug or glitch where the worm was hit three times with the punch, therefore resulting in 90hp damage....but that hardly seems likely, though I have had it happen in W:A while using the Fiddler! Worm was hit twice with teh punch.

it's not a bug in the wa. it's just how fire punch works. it seems to work differently in wow and wxbla, though.

I've hit someone once for a 60 point hit, have no idea how it happened and have not duplicated it since. only thing is i can remember that it did physically hit twice also with 2 contact noises.

Maybe he did a DP xx DP (Dragon Punch cancelled into another DP, in Street Fighter notation) ;)
Or, perhaps lag caused it to count twice...

simulation steps should be independent of rendering steps. otherwise, you'd have no guarantee that replays would play out exactly the same as the game originally did. if it's done like that, the lag cannot affect game dynamics. then again, there was that jet pack bug...

How do you run the replays in WA? I'ts been a while, can you refresh my memory? :P
It's as easy as double clicking the file if you have WA installed and updated. Instructions on how to do that here: www.nanacide.com/wahelp/
I'll stop kidnapping the XBLA forums any minute now. :p
Sorry, been away.
What happened was a worm walked up to me, DP'd me for 90 by doing a regular punch, I went up the default height, bounced off a wall to my right then landed back where I was but with 90 less health.

Incidentally... They don't always. I have seen on two occasions the replay not play out the same way the actual shot did. The first time, I thought perhaps I was just remembering it wrong, but then I was on the lookout for it, and I am 99% confident it happened again.
I did a 60 dmg fire punch today. It was sudden death and we both had 1 worm left. I had 1 health and he had 26 from a health crate. I was under him and fire punched into his angled tunnel. I hit him and then he appeared to bounce right off the side of the tunnel he was in back into my punch and I guess took another 30.

I did have someone DP me for 60 the other day, as well. No long falls, or explosives involved. Only thing I can think of is I was on an incline, his first hit knocked me back, and I must have bounced back into the punch, for another 30 damage.
It definitely does more damage if Ian punches me in the face while I have my back to the wall. I'm off to casualty now. BBIAB.

I just did a 90 dmg punch as well. The worm was above me, at the top height of my jump. It hit him 3 times by the looks of things (he got stuck where he was).

It must have happened that somehow you bounced into him three times. I have done several 60 damage fps. Just a little luck involved.
