OK, I've tried just about everything to run WWP and Worms 2 from the SoldOut Software disks (see other post about returning to windows xp after start up). I know I'm reaching here but is there any chance that I have to change the region on my DVD drives since SoldOut is based in the UK and my game (from ebay) has a price tag of 4.99 euros or pounds or quid, whatever.

I know that sounds stupid but I'm running out of ideas.

Software DVDs aren't usually region encoded, are they? I'm pretty sure they're not.

Doubtfully, as I said I'm really reaching trying to get both Worms 2 and WWP from SoldOut to work. I also have WA but don't even want to bother trying.

I've had a look on various software reseller sites both from Europe and across the pond and nowhere do they say that their software DVDs are region encoded. According to a couple of sites I looked at it's only DVD Videos (ie: movies) and console games (XBox, PSx, etc) that are encoded, not data discs.

I have never heard of software DVDs to be region encoded.
Besides, the Sold-Out releases of W2 and WWP are on CD anyway.
(Or are there any compilations on DVD?)

BTW, I suggest you play WA with the lates beta updates though.

Well, yeah they're on CD. I just meant that I'm playing them through my DVD and DVD/RW drives, same thing.
As far as WA goes, I own the original Windows 95/98 and running the beta patch (nancide is great) on it and its fine so I'm not about to install the SoldOut version and screw everthing all to hell.
I just bought W2/WA/WWP as a 3 pack for like 15 bucks, so I just got WA by default.
Thanks for checking on the region codes though. I knew it couldn't be that, just eing desperate

CDs won't be region-encoded.

What's the actual problem you're having when trying to install the games?

IIRC, Sold-Out's autorunning installer doesn't work for some people.

Maybe try disabling the autostart function of your drive (or override it by holding down the Shift key when inserting the game CD) and manually launch the installers.

..\autorun\game\setup.exe for W2
and
..\installer\setup.exe for WWP.

Edit:
BTW, don't change the region code of your DVD drive, as you can only do it 4 times and are stuck with the last change.

It installed once and played all the intro music and the intro movie, then it crashed or something and since then I just get

CD error
Please insert CD (or something like that)
anytime I try and launch it

and it's in there.

I sent an e-mail to SoldOut tech support and sent them ny DirectX detection files for my system so if I get it figured out I'll put the SOLVED up unless someone else has had this happen and knows.

I didn't even think about the overriding the autoplay. I'll give that a shot and let you know. Thanks

Nope. Tried install from the setup.exe file instead and get the same error. The actual error dialog box is...

CD Audio Error
No CD in Drive
OK

CD Audio Error
No CD in Drive
OK
Oh.
If that's regarding W2, then try to install AND run the game from the (both physical and virtual) CD/DVD drive with the lowest drive letter.
I.e. D:\ is lower than E:\.

OK, it's working. I KNOW I did it with the lowest CD/DVD Drive letter. The only other thing was that I had a virtual drive from DaemonTools on there and I disabled that too, maybe that was it.

Funny thing is that after trying to figure this out for a couple of days and playing WA a lot that W2 kinda sucks in comparison with no change in resolution, sounds, gameplay, missions. :D :p

Thanks for all the advice

Yes, as I said, both physical & virtual drives count.
Instead of removing the virtual one, you could have switched around the drive letters though.
