Why's Wormthingy been banned? I was just talking to him, and he says that this message comes up -
vBulletin Message

You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.

Date the ban will be lifted: Never

Does anyone know what's going on here?

He chatted to me about it too.

Can't say I'm any the wiser, though.

Hey, I din't know wormthingy was banned. I know he was a bit n00bish at times but I didn't think he'd do any bannable offences (although I'm probably wrong; I mean, look at K^2).

I assume it's something to do with this new system, and Sel isn't around so I can't see him being unbanned.

look at K^2).

He did do something very wrong though, he was even warned.

Does he have a fixed IP address or one that only changes when he logs on and off the internet (or restarts his router if he has one). If so, try getting him to change it, as sometimes you can pick up a banned IP.

He has an invalid e-mail address. Due to a very large number of e-mails bouncing back each day from the forum, volcadmin has started autobanning people with invalid e-mail addresses (thus stopping bouncebacks).

Tell wormthingy to e-mail webmaster at team17 dot com with details of a new e-mail address and the ban will be removed.

This has only been implemented in the last couple of days and is still being fine tuned

What was wrong with the old 'in limbo' system?

Auto Banning for an out of date email adress seems a little harsh.:p

No he did something that was technically wrong, not very wrong.

Whoo... Thanks for the reminder, though. :p

Well... in either case, he was still warned.

I do remember though, that when I changed my email and deleted the old, I was banned. I don't remember getting the 'Limbo' status either...
That was quite a long time ago too.

For some reason (possibly because it was implemented on vB2 and we're now on vB3.6) it doesn't quite work as well as it did - I think it still allowed all the "<blah> thread has been updated" e-mails to be sent out, whereas it appears banning the user stops those.

Obviously, as volcadmin only works during the week, bans won't be lifted until then.

Essentially, the old In Limbo system banned you, it just did it in a nicer way for the user, but not quite so nice for the person getting all the bounced-back e-mails.

*Checks email address* :p

Are they made aware of why they've been banned? Not to insult your descisions, but how can they change to a valid one if they have no idea of why they've been banned? Surely emailing the admins would make more work for everyone?

See earlier - when you log onto the forum you get a message saying you've been banned. It may have been changed to show a message explainign why you've been banned

Not to insult your descisions,

Well, it's not my decision. User mods can't ban users. We can at worst put someone on Being Watched for a maximum of 6 months.

but how can they change to a valid one if they have no idea of why they've been banned? Surely emailing the admins would make more work for everyone?

I'm not entirely sure what system volcadmin's got set up, but I imagine they'll be told they've been banned for having an invalid e-mail address and to e-mail someone. It's probably less work than having to constantly delete a large amount of bounced back e-mails.

I can't see how they could be - Can't email because it's invalid. Can't PM because they're banned and can't access them :p

I believe banned users can still access PM's from admins, but I'm not 100% sure.

And if you can't e-mail the administrators because you don't have a valid e-mail address, then you don't get your forum access back :p Best to get a valid e-mail account then.
